Chery "Omoda5" Pre-Sale Offer - Free Metallic Paint + First Service or Floor Mats

Hi all, first time poster here but long time reader.

Not sure if this will be of interest to anyone, but I have been following Chery Australia's launch quite closely and they have just updated their website with a presale offer. They are asking for a refundable $500 holding deposit, which gets you "one of the first" Omoda 5s.

The offer is a choice of either Free metallic paint + floor mats OR Free metallic paint + free first service.

I'm not sure if Chery will follow a fixed pricing model like Honda, but if they do this is a decent value proposition.

Apparently vehicles will be available within a month or so.

Hope someone finds this helpful!

It’s a completely rubbish website description. It’s got a flash grill, voice command and driver safety systems. NOTHING else.

      • Diamond grille
        LED headlights
        Matrix taillights
        Voice Control
        Wireless Charging

        Remote start

Don't think you read this room too well..

I went and looked. Couldn’t see anything about the drivetrain. I thought it might be an EV, but doesn’t give any indication.

If it’s an ICE, I hope they’ve improved quality since they last sold Chery here 20 years ago.

    • It's an ICE.

  • Why are you buying a chery. Get a more reliable used car for the price

    • Social media marketing dept staffed by wood ducks.. the $500 is fundraising to complete the website.

    • Hmm they've removed the post

      • Mod for the CarsAustralia subreddit probably saw it as spam

Let’s just hope that this time around, the leopard has changed its spots.

I don’t know why they didn’t reinvent themselves as an EV only vehicle company.

I was expecting to open the website and see it was an ev. Instead it's a gutless turd.

      • I know! I saw the new release car a while back and thought, “holy shit that is a good looking EV, screw the Atto, I’m getting this…” only to read down a little further… 1.5l turbo… *click new article*

  • Chery, the SsangYong of China.
Wonder how many 're-launches' they will have until 'this time we got it right'

No thanks, especially with no dealer network

  • Who would pay $40k for this pos, the last time Chery were here, they ran away with their tail between their legs after selling complete and utter crap to the Australian public. The 7 year warranty won't do anyone much good when Chery exists the market again.

    Also, thanks Chery shill.

  • I still remember an old Chery car that had a sticker on its roof rack rails saying they were for decoration only.

  • Obviously using Ozb to advertise! Nobody in the right frame of mind will “follow” Chery’s second Aust launch.
    1) No indication of price “$40k” on their website yet $500 deposit?
    2) if you can’t even provide floor mats on a new $40k car? Usually bargain these mats+tints+metallic free when buying new…
    3) Price point $40k, Warren Buffet’s BYD Atto EV makes a much better proposition with similar warranty.
Looks cool like that new Haval, interface looks similar to most new cars with CarPlay.
1.5T engine sounds simply a joke and gutless especially when running 91 octane. 10sec to 100km/h sounds like performance from yesteryears.
I reckon the selling price point looks more like a $20k-$25k driveaway for Aust market. More than that, you might as well buy a Corolla or Mazda3.

    • I read they want to market themselves a bit more upmarket than before .
Just increasing the price of a cheap car isn’t making it upmarket though.
