Nest Camera or Eufy Camera?

I'm moving into a new house, thinking to get a security camera. it'll be quite a small townhouse so will put 1 outside to watch the door and 1 inside probably.

Does anyone has any pros and cons or why I should choose one over another? I'm currently leaning into eufy because of the no subscription cost but I reckon nest camera will work pretty well with all other google home that I have.

Also what kind of Eufy camera do you have? is 3C good enough?

I've used both. Both are great. I personally prefer the nest as it connects with my other Google products and has a better interface (IMO)

The Eufy has the upper hand with battery life and no subscription costs though.

    • have you got any issues with Eufy at all? other than the connectivity with google products for nest. i was looking for the nest aware and it cost $20 per month just to continuously record!

No issues at all with the Eufy. I would honestly recommend it over the Nest for most people.

  • 1 inside probably

Why inside? I mean if someone manages to hack into it, they can watch you. Also will cause issues if you want to rent out / Air bnb the property in the future.

    • just because i used to live in apartment, now i'm going to live in a house and in case of burglaries or something? i don't know maybe i'm overthinking this but i travel a lot though so i tend to leave my place for 3-4 weeks. just in case you know

if you have a camera inside your house and you can see the thief on your camera, then it's too late.

have as much deterrence outside to avoid a window or door being smashed,

you want to avoid any unnecessary costs to you,,

        things like
        - security stickers visible on front window and back door that says house is monitored.
        - cameras that cover areas that are an easy access
        - window locks or curtain rods in window guides to stop window from opening.
        - curtains and blinds to obscure view inside.
        - lights on timers
        - dummy alarm siren and signal box on the outside where it is visible..
        - be friends with your neighbours,.

        • oh yea this is all actually quite smart. thanks for the recommendations. i'll definitely buy security stickers now lol

        • Would also add a kick plate behind garage back door if it opens inside. At new home insisted the garage back door should open outside.
A cheap wifi ptz camera inside house when you are away would let you watch 360 degree with audio when you are away. You can even talk and convince the thief to leave.

  • What home automation hub are you using - Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit?

    • google home

      • If you decide to go with Eufy, make sure you choose a Google Home compatible device

  • outside

I like the eufy outdoor one so much I am waiting for next sale to get 4-5 more.

I dont care about google integration with it even though my home is very google integrated now.

  • You should be good with the Eufy 3C. Older cameras can only record a set period of time after a motion event and thus may not capture all motion unless you pair them with the Homebase 3.

Neither and save your money. Or get a dummy camera with a red flashing light.

  • Eufy. I have two set up outside connected to a Eufy solar panel. Never had to charge them since purchasing them

    • Same. Had 2 cameras for around 18 months before getting the solar panels and they have been absolutely worth it.

  • Consider Reolink cameras. They have a few battery/solar powered varieties that are decent like the Argus 3 Pro. Or if budget constrained their Argus 2 is good for basic monitoring of the front. For me I dislike having cameras inside the house as I wanna respect everyones privacy even in the common areas like the kitchen or lounge, I would only have monitoring in the garage, the side gate ways and rear.

For a decent indoor camera, the EUFY Indoor pan and tilt 2k is decent. Just need access to a power point for a Type A to Micro USB cable. Or to keep it within the same brand and not multiple apps go the Reolink 5MP pan and tilt for indoor usage.

    • Reolink hardware is good but their software is horrible. Eufy has the best software and with the new release of the 4K wired cameras, they now have the same or better hardware than Reolink but with their own far superior software that catches all the detection and shows it to you. Reolink makes you go looking for it in nasty 2-5 minute chunks of video, what a waste of time, especially for a false alert.

  • Eufy/Anker were caught red-handed with their pants down.

I would be beware of them as it stands.

    • If some rando wants to see me nude they should be paying for it lol.

What else could they get from it though?
