In the interests of supporting our local producers, the Number One apple on Brian Frange's Appleist, formerly via Tumblr and now at Apple Rankings has become available in commercial quantities. I missed them last year but saw some on the shelf at my local Woolies today having already acquired some at Harris Farm Markets (NSW, Qld only). How would you say they compare to modi apples (my current fave)
$7.50 per kg, short 2-month season, more tart than I was expecting perhaps due to early harvest. I used to rate Modi but now lean towards Envy (a bit one-note sweet) and wonder what happened to Kalei? Will certainly keep buying while they're available
I’m basically a 99.9% Cole’s shopper - never seen envy or kalei :(
Kalei used to be exclusive to Coles but I couldn't find any last year. Envy are only at Woolies, Modi indeed Coles
Early harvest? Aren't apples winter fruit? Definitely early. I discovered Envy last year and loved them so looking forward to their return.
It depends on the variety, but harvest is normally between February and June.
Royal Gala is the earliest large scale crop and they are available now.
You pay $7.50 for apples? I can't stomach it.(the $ not the apples).
How bout them apples
I'm still looking forward to the Mackinaw Peach being in stock again. I lost my sense of taste last year so I couldn't enjoy them.
