Wardaddy is obviously trolling.
Well I like the soothing feeling of gravel entering my nostrils as I slide face first along the ground after losing my handlebars mid descent.
Heh, the pedals will be the first to go, mysteriously just fall off like gumballs from a machine.
@dbmitch: No… wheels. I bought some mountain bikes at Kmart marked down to $99. Took them home, put them together, kids and I rode about 600m, went to pedal down with right foot to move off again and the pedals just spun. The rear cluster stripped the rear wheel. Went home, got out the warranty booklet for a phone number… "No guarantee applies to wheels."
@[Deactivated]: No need to reject his assessment, plenty of stuff can fail catastrophically on cheap bikes. My friend bent and broke off the cranks on a cheap bike the first time he rode it. To be fair it was more like a teenagers' build of bike and he is a fit dude that's 90kg+, but it wasn't the hub that failed.
Nice Op. Good to see bikes are coming back to normal pricing. Canyon has always been best for buck in the MTB space regardless.
I thought Giant were best bang for buck, though I haven't bought new since.. 2015? Back then an alloy trance with xt groupset, carbon rims, cost under 4k. Didn't think Canyon had anything in that category/price range.
These days I'm thinking polygon but.. my friends would disown me if I dared to buy polygon..
Why do you let your friends decide your life like that? I roll up proud with the weird choice and if anyone wants to shame me or talk shit about my choice I'll just talk shit about them personally, full ad hominem attack.
People are stupid sheep and don't know what's best for themselves most of the time.
Agreed. If your friends judge you based on your belonings, they are not good friends. Buy the bike that YOU want, and replace your friends
|People are stupid sheep and don't know what's best for themselves most of the time.
And hasn’t this been proven recently.
@furiousgeorge: LOL. +1 Ark, follow the science, follow the science, ark!
@[Deactivated]: Beware the hurty words!
For value the polygons are hard to beat, although a Canyon at 30% off would be a very compelling offer.
Bikes online are currently selling the Marin Alpine Trail XR for under $4k, it was already considered good value by many at full price $5.5k. If it was my money, that's where it would probably be going at the moment.
your friends are stupid if they hate on you for buying a polygon, they should be more concerned if you show on on the big W special.
Giant do great discounts and have great warranty support. Merida are also a very good value proposition. I have happily ridden both in the last 12 months and the DW link on the Giant is great but the suspension setup on the Matts 140 was also really good as well.
I am bang for buck
Giant was definitely the best deal when I was searching in 2017, though lots of bike brands have decent deals these days. Manufacturing has caught up with the massive uptake and shortages during COVID so lots have excess stock to move.
I’d also be keeping an eye on bike exchange as some good clear out deals pop up on there aswell.
Lots of stolen bikes being sold. People staying at the local caravan park regularly post on local Facebook community pages "reward no questions asked" after their bikes get stolen overnight. Usually several go in one night. Not that it matters if you buy one because police do nothing. Too busy monitoring social media for hurty words.
I’m always astonished at the number of people at caravan parks who leave their bikes lying around, not locked up
They were also best bang for buck when I bought my road bike from them last year
That Neuron 6 is a bargain
Yes, but only on L and XL sizes. Also I remember they used to mount XT and now is SLX.
I haven't kept up to date with mtbing for a while.
Is dw-link still the top dog in the dual suspension stakes? or has other makes come up with a comparable system for more bang for buck?I know Giant's Maestro was sued as it was a copy of dw-link, but settled at slightly different points on the anti-squat curve or whatever the marketing jargon is.
Pretty hard to get bad suspension nowadays, it's pretty well understood. You can always pick the wrong style of bike for the riding you want though. With the advent of Tokens/ Spacers the tuning of suspension has gone to the next level. Buy/Rent/Borrow a shockwiz and go down the rabbit hole of suspension tuning.
DW-Link was always good on long travel but the shorter travel XC bikes it had a bit too much metal/weight. Look at Specialized, they've dropped the Horst link from their XC bikes.
I like DW/Maestro but really nowadays I think all platforms are good. If someone rubbishes a platform but hasn't played with Tokens/Spacers, walk on. They don't know what they're talking about.
Lots of brands bringing out new models so I would always compare with my local bike shop on the latest prices for bikes you're interested before ordering off Canyon. Trek are about do drop the prices of last years model next week as the new stock comes in. Norco have done the same and I'm seeing some good prices on some Giants.
Btw, never forget to always check the Outlet section.
I had bought a Spectral CF in the past from the Outlet section that ended up selling only $100 less than what I paid (including shipping).
I was looking at getting this Progear - 2022 Trail Dual Suspension Mountain Bike, but I always read online that if it isn't from one of the big known companies (Trek, Giant, Specialized, etc), then it's basically garbage. Are unknown cheaper bikes like this really that bad?
There are lots of small, boutique bike brands that many haven't heard of that make amazing gear, particularly in the MTB world. Unfortunately the bike you linked isn't bad because it's an unknown brand, it's just that it is a k-mart level bike. It's not a real mountain bike like the Canyons from the OP. If you are ok with that then it might be ok but I would personally spend a little bit more and get something from the mainstream big brands you've mentioned, even if it were just for casual use. Maybe one of the Trek hardtails. The quality difference will be very noticeable.
Canyon doesn't have the same brand recognition as those you listed as they only sell direct, not through bike shops, but they're certainly a big company with a presence in road/MTB competitions, etc.
They're cheaper due to the direct sales model, not because of the quality.
I purchased a Canyon commuter recently. It was pretty much the only XL framed bike that had the features I wanted. Their after sales support was great but I would recommend factoring in $$ for a new saddle as the stock one was rubbish. Hope this helps :)
such a great bargain - I would have pulled the trigger if I didn't have 3 bikes in the garage already.
Do you have to pay import tax on these?
No, Canyon includes all the relevant taxes/duties in their pricing. They also charge your credit card in Australia, despite being based in Germany, so you don't get hit for overseas transactions charges if your bank is one that does (like mine)
Awesome :) On the waitlist now
The bikes are a fair bit cheaper at Kmart.
