A will from a lawyer is roughly $1k, or anywhere from half that to double.

Yep. Parents were around $800 each (think they got a slight discount as both were done at the same time).

Also depends if Power of Attorney and Enduring Medical Guardianship i being done.

    • If you want something unusual in your will, like denying a spouse or child anything, might pay to get a lawyer who can spot loopholes like giving them a token amount of $5,000 to help stop any appeal they could make.

    • It's the OP, what did you expect?

      • In that case.. platform of choice would be facebook or instagram - most audience interaction.

  • If you are are member of a club then call them and ask if they have days when a lawyer is available for helping out with a will. Some clubs have a lawyer come in to help out with advice and simple matters fro 1/2 a day every week or month.
if you are not a member of your nearest club then ring up and ask and if they do have the service then join for between $2 and $5 / year so you can visit the lawyer.

    • Thanks. What is an example of a club? Are you refering to rsl club?

  • Hi there,

The NSW Trustee & Guardian have standard Wills for $440. It is $660 if you also want Power of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship.

However, it is free for pensioners. Will prices vary. A local solicitor can help you draft one if you like but you have to enquire about costs.

If you want a free one, I suggest you use Gathered Here online. The process is so so simple. They are a charity and there is no obligation to leave them anything in your Will. It is OPTIONAL.

Just fill in the details and you will be emailed a copy of your Will to print out for signing.
You can also update it if you need to.

In order to have a valid Will, you need two witnesses over the age of 18 and who are NOT in your Will.
I suggest you use your neighbours, doctors or even co-workers as witnesses.
Make sure you sign the bottom of every page of your Will in front of your two witnesses and then they sign the bottom of every page in front of you. So the bottom of each page has three signatures. Also ensure that your Will is dated.
Then you can keep the original Will in your own safe custody and let a family member know that you have a Will and that you will keep it amongst your possessions.

    Happy to help.

Also upon your death, your family don't have to use them to wrap up your estate. Probate matters can be taken to any other solicitor. FYI.

Also if you are a member of a union, find out what your benefits are.
Some unions offer their members a free standard Will.

    • thanks a lot that was extremely helpful.
yeah i enquired few lawyers and $450 mark seems to be the standard rate. so nsw trustee and guardian sounds good.

      • It was $330 last year. Up 25%! FYI.

        • do you know where you saw it advertised?

          • @yjun355: On the NSW Trustee & Guardian website…
Their prices have gone up. Like everything else!

      • It also depends on if it's a simple standard Will or not. If you have assets and businesses overseas, it can be complicated. A solicitor might charge more.

It might also cost you extra in 5 or 10 years down the track if you want to update your old Will.
Keep in mind, a new Will always over-rides an old Will. Once it is signed correctly, it is valid.
