Worth mentiong this is Wifi 5 (AC), with modern routers for sale today supporting Wifi 6 (AX)

  • I strongly recommend getting an Intel PCIe Wi-Fi card if using a desktop PC. If you are using a Notebook and need to upgrade your Wi-Fi and are tech savvy enough to pop the lid, I would recommend replacing your internal M2 Wi-Fi card with an Intel one. I would even recommend sticking a Intel card into a relatively new Notebook if you have Wi-Fi issues with a built in Realtek or Mediatek Wi-Fi card.

      Why?
I've been using USB wifi adapers for years.
100mb down, low stable latency (on AC), just need a decent spec (like any wifi device).

I can't comment on bandwidths above 100mbs, but better ones than this (larger adjustable antennas) have done me well.

      • I whacked in in my nuc the other day. Uses the internal antenna and doesn’t take up 2 usb slots like the chunky wifi adapters were doing before. Bought it cheap off AliExpress but it seems fine.
If you happy with usb there isn’t really any reason for one over the other though. Just internal doesn’t stick out of a notebook etc

      • Most USB adaptors are using a Realtek chipset and I have found issues with both performance and reliability: Transfer speed was never close to advertised speed, and also random USB disconnections, and sometimes failure to recognise Wi-Fi on PC restart. One of the big benefits that I noticed when moving to a PCIe Wi-Fi card was that the WOL (Wake on LAN) feature worked perfectly, which meant that our Plex client TV's woke up our main PC (Plex server) if it fell asleep.

  • Flocks, Can we use it for TV

  • Is the Bluetooth range any good on this? I've had USB dongles before where the range was absolutely terrible (they didn't have external antennas though)
