Need OB's help. We're visiting Tassie for the first time in April and have booked 2N in Cradle Mountain. Originally we were going to spend that full day hiking and probably do the summit but then I found out they have canyoning which looked pretty sick through https://cradlemountaincanyons.com.au/dovecanyon which is a 6-8hr day trip (do 6 waterfalls). I'm not really sure what to do now. I know it's subjective but what do you think will be a better experience for a first trip to Cradle? Is the summit walk/views that good that it just can't be missed? Better Call Saul.
Tasmania / Cradle Mountain 2N - Canyoning or Hiking?

To be fair, it'll be freezing cold no matter when you go.
OP if you're there for 2 nights that means you effectively have 1 full day and 2 half days of activities.

Not untrue but there's a difference with going in December and in June!
I did the overland track the first week of winter (when it's free like a true OzBargainer) many years ago and it was freezing. We climbed Mount Ossa and at the top we were waist deep in snow.
You wear wetsuits and stuff, like you're completely covered except your face. Won't that take the cold away?
Don't have to convince me!
Wouldn't your choice be what you would prefer to do?
BTW, be prepared for changeable weather in April.
Make a decision and run with it.
Do the other option next time you visit Tasmania.
Canyoning or Hiking?
Have you looked at Mushrooming?
There's good fungus amongst the bad.
I spore what you did there.
Have done the canyoning and hiked the summit - really can't go wrong with your choice but I would lean towards canyoning as it's a pretty unique experience. Squeeze in the summit hike on your checkout day!
That water in Dove canyon is going to be freezing cold in April, so take that into consideration for what you decide.
I completed the Overland Track over the last week of January, it was exceptional. The views at the top of Cradle are awesome, it is a tricky climb up there.
