Recommended Powerpoint with USB C

Hi, I am after a two port powerpoint that has USB c and a, I understand some of the cheaper ones have an active draw on the USB ports?

Also after a four port ones with USB c? if this exists? otherwise USB a is fine?

are the bunnings ones ok?

Depends, are you considering doing it DIY?

If not, I would generally recommend to get the sparky to supply and install.
If the DETA one falls over you will be up for labour fee anyway.

If sparky supply and install you are generally at least covered for 12 months from installed, labour wise.

    • Thanks yeah I think I will go done that path of them supplying and installing

  • Deta are known to be cheap but functional. A deta install is a sign that a job was either DIY or a sparkys' weekend cashie because the electrical wholesalers werent open. If you are worried about an active draw from the USB ports i'd say you are more likely to have it with a budget brand like Deta.

I'm pretty happy with Clipsal iconic and its quite a flexible system with the different mechs and faceplates that can be used. You are looking at close enough to $100 per GPO though.

It seems like such a good idea but i'm not sure i'd bother with in-wall USB in the future - it's just as easy and more flexible to use wall warts.

You are better getting a sparky to supply and fit it as it may need the hole to be made deeper in order for the USB power supply to fit in the space behind the power point.

If you are prepared to change the powerpoint yourself, I don't see why you can't make the hole bigger yourself too.

I would strongly recommend against this as all you're doing is moving the adapter inside the wall where it's hotter and not user replaceable when (not if) it fails.

Not to mention they're damned expensive. $45 for a cheap Bunnings one and it's only a trickle charger, so really slow for anything more than a phone.

An external 4-port GaN charger is cheaper, faster and replaceable.

  • Yeah I’ll just get the sparky to supply and install and use adapters thanks
