Just checking if anyone has rented a car from Bayswater recently in Sydney? I note on their confirmation email that you need to "Agree to an Equifax credit check and score 600+".
Why does a car rental agency need to do a credit check? Do they actually do this?
Not from my experience.
I haven’t used them for a while but their terms really do seem to have changed, as you say it does state a credit check required even though they put a hold of the excess on your credit card at time of collection…..

Not sure how i feel about this, in theory they will have all details from you in the process of hiring the car to easily carry out a check, and your permission to in the rental agreement.
i would personally call and ask in branch.
to make sure you are a good person and bring the car back.

Yes, however it doesn't impact your rating, as it's a soft credit check.
Just thought I'd share my experience with Bayswater (albeit a bit late).
Pickup from Sydney Domestic was really quick - we were the only ones waiting so we had the bus to ourselves. Got to the depot and we were in and out in 5 minutes. The easiest and most pain-free and friendly car rental pickup experience I'd ever had. I don't know if they did a credit check, it didn't seem like it.
Car was great, an almost brand-new Corolla hybrid.
Drop off was equally as good, in and out in only a few minutes. They did a cursory check around the vehicle to ensure no damage and all was good.
It's a pity they're not in more locations because I'd definitely use them over the big car rental companies. The damage waiver for only $5/day was also excellent value for peace of mind.
