Lots of companies choose to show support/solidarity with marginalised groups. It's not new.

since when lgbt is a thing in alcohol too?

Since they think they can somehow make extra money off the "i support the current thing" trend.

      • +2

They sell their product, and trigger a few conservative snowflakes while they're at it. Win win.

      Since it became profitable

    • Well the kind of kink they into, they really gotta be drunk to fulfil thier fantasies

  • Works out to be $56.56/L, can get 4.5L Absolut from costco for $51.11/L delivered.

    • That's $230 to spend at costco then.

Limited edition till this time next year?

    • Just like all the companies changing their profile pics on social media in western countries only.

I totally protest that and also why is rice at Maccas only a Thai thing?

        • Last time I was in Bali, they had rice too

          • @foxes28: I stand corrected and still wondering why rice at Maccas is only a thing in selected Asian countries.

            Oh, because of different culture.

Can it be applied to rainbowy things? Probably yes, but screw logic, right?

Being gay is not culture champ, because its not restrict to any one nation.

The fact multi corps only promote there support in western based countries during Alphabet month means they dont believe or stand behind the values they promote, just pretend and placate to a market. If you believe in a set of ideas or values then it shouldn't matter which country you are in, especially if its a western based company.

They dont stand by there values because they do business with countries who dont share there values. Simply put, its about the money and an insult to say you are a supporter. They should be called out for it and ridiculed for their bad faith behaviour.

For example.. If you believe in god and went to another country that doesn't share your belief, you wouldn't change your own belief as a result of visiting said country.

                  @foxes28: Capitalism, essentially.

                    Capitalism, essentially.

I think you are conflating freedoms of speech vs capitalism.

Be that as it may, the gay community makes up 1-2% of the population. So to say they are capitalising would be a stretch and then some.

                • @foxes28:

                  virtue signalling essentially

                  Exactly what it is!!

              • @vash5: Absolutely not culture, absolutely not what I meant. It's like you said.

And then it's shit that people are pointing out the lack of rainbows but wouldn't mention other acts of hypocrisy. Because rainbow in logos are easier to comprehend, I guess.

                • @pizzaguy:

And then it's shit that people are pointing out the lack of rainbows but wouldn't mention other acts of hypocrisy. Because rainbow in logos are easier to comprehend, I guess

Didn't quite understand what you are trying to say here.

                  • @vash5: Some companies from democratic, capitalistic countries that allowed them to thrive (in)directly support non-democratic states.
Some companies claiming their products to be green offshore the dirty parts of their processes.
Some companies add rainbows to their ID but only in countries where it's easy.

              • @vash5: You need to be practical here.

If you're trying to do business in various countries (not limited to SE Asia) and display any gay pride or anything that could be considered pro-homosexual you may not be in business very long at best, and a one way ticket to a prison cell at worst.

It's a complex subject. What's best - no involvement at all, shut up shop and move out of the country? Or quietly try to change perceptions over time? No simple answer here, like many things in SE Asia. It wasn't so long ago that western countries also treated gay people like second class citizens - don't be so quick to forget this.

(Source = lived in SE Asia for two years - had a expat colleague who was gay, and he struggled with these realities. Many local co-workers were supportive of him, others not so much. This was brought up to senior stakeholders of the business and it was on the agenda at board meetings.)

                • @b2dz: The difference here is money vs values.

You can't have it both ways. You cant support having cheap goods but proclaim you're against slave labour that made those same goods.

You cant say you care about sustainability and the environment but create products that are almost impossible to repair and charge people more for a repair than a replacement(I'm looking at you Apple).

In the same token you cant make a large open statement about how diverse and inclusive you are about gay rights but openly accept money from countries and cultures that stone people to death for being gay.

More importantly, the same level of advertising of support and acceptance is not shown for other cultures, religions or minorities because its not trendy.

Its fake empty platitudes that needs to be called out and should not be acceptable behaviour.

Perhaps a more inclusive cocktail mixer would have been butterscotch schnapps and baileys ? Look it up
