Finally bit the bullet on a GaN charger.

Seems to be well regarded on here.

Note that it doesn't support PD. So you won't get super fast charging with latest Samsung devices.

    • +1

Is it just PD that Samsung devices need? Or they've got that other charging spec that they need also? Or is that part of PD. I'm getting more and more confused about all the different charging protocols :(.

      • +1

PD is one supported charging standard that will get you "fast charging."

PPS is an optional protocol in the PD spec that allows Samsung devices to "super fast charge" at either 25W or 45W. This will allow phones with 25W super fast charging to charge at the maximum rate.

    • +1

      Do you mean PPS?

      • Yes! Where does that fit into all this stuff?

        • It doesn’t have PPS, it’s specifically called out in the description.

I believe all modern usb-c devices are PD. (Doesn’t mean it will support ALL PD protocols but that’s while other subject.)

        • From wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hardware#USB_Power_Deliver…

The USB Power Delivery specification revision 3.0 defines an optional Programmable Power Supply (PPS) protocol that allows granular control over VBUS power, allowing a range of 3.3 to 21 V in 20 mV steps to facilitate constant-current or constant-voltage charging.

In simple terms, the charger does more work which means less heat in the phone which is bad for batteries. As a result, faster charging is possible

    • One of the reviews says they get fast charging on their Samsung devices.

      • So not the super fast charging

      Notes
      * This charger does not support 45W fast charging for Samsung Note 10.
      * Use a USB-C to Lightning cable for Lightning devices with PowerIQ 3.0 fast charging, and use a USB-C to USB-C cable for PowerIQ 3.0 fast charging for your USB-C laptops.
      * This device is not a portable charger or power bank; it must be connected to a wall outlet to use.
      * This charger is not compatible with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
      * Supports Super Fast Charging for S22 Ultra but does not support 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0.

      This unit is PD/PPS

These are great chargers but this is not a great price

      • Where is a better price?

        • Where is a better price?

I’m not saying there’s a better price on offer, just saying I don’t find it a particularly good value proposition.

I have one and I like it a lot I just don’t think $60 is particularly good value.

          • @0jay: Fair enough - I'm keen to buy one, but $60 isn't an amazing deal for what it does.

            • +1

              @The Captain: I’d argue $60’s a reasonable RRP

If it’d deliver 60/65W max on a single port I reckon $60’d be a good deal.

Anker stuff’s really nice and I’m not sure I’ll be buying another brand for a while but they do capitalise on their reputation a bit beyond what I reckon’s fair.

It is NOT PPS. Did you mistype this or?

    • Yes, it does. PD is USB-C charging. It looks it does SFC which is PPS at 25W. PPS is an optional protocol that may or may not be implemented in chargers.

      From the description:

Supports Super Fast Charging for S22 Ultra but does not support 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0.

  • Would've been nice if this came with international travel adaptors

It's uses a figure-8 cable - very easy to pick up a compatible cable.

    • Oopps maybe not.

I had one of these during a recent trip to SE Asia. Brought a US C7 cable to plug it into the wall. So nice and simple!

  • Great device

Sorry but I look at this exact item by habit because it's in my Amazon "recently viewed" area and it's dropped to this price almost every month for as long as I have been checking it since last year. 9/10 times I have clicked on it the price has been $59.99.
So IMO this is just a regular "sale" price.

  • Last time it was at this price was in September…

No, last time it was posted on OzBargain was September.

It has also been this price in October, November and December.

I have one of these and its one of the best chargers I have ever bought. I have attached it to the back of side table using Velcro tape so that I can take it out when travelling! Simply amazing product. FWIW, I paid I think about $50 from eBay.

    • Great idea, i'm going to do this with mine

  • This deal is back on/alive. I'd reported it as expired last time, but I cannot re-report.
