Which Seedbox for Plex in Australia ?

Hi guys, I'm new to seedbox and have been using Plex with files stored on my macbook so far I love it however it's a pain when I want to stream stuff outside my household.

Would a seedbox solve that problem with 24/7 remote access to all my files with good bandwith ?

Also most seedbox providers are located in Europe, do you guys use an australian provider to reduce latency / ping ?

cheers

  • What is the issue with streaming outside your house? Is it constantly buffering?

    • yes buffering, low quality and also my macbook goes to sleep or randomly drops connection.

      defo not the best setup

I don't know much about Seedboxes, there are 5 options suggested here.

Another option is to buys a NAS, but that relies on you having at least 50/20 NBN and money upfront.

Seedboxes usually have a bouncer all over the world. Checkout reddit, there is a dedicated r/seedboxes will have all the answers you want.

also black friday deals usually gives a 10-20% discount on most seedboxes for a 12 month plan.

Might be better value to pay to join someone else's Plex library instead. Not sure exactly where to look but it'll probably work out cheaper than trying to host your own, and don't have to worry about bandwidth throttling

You're look at $25-50 a month minimum. What's your use case? May be easier just carrying a small SSD drive.

Ping isn't really an issue, media buffers.

Get a cheap NUC, NAS or similar and host your own Plex server. I have a NAS at home that just sits in the corner, humming away and I run Plex on it. Watch it anywhere I want. Just make sure you have a good upload speed.

Get a micro PC, like a Dell Optiplex or similar. I bought an i5 Skylake off eBay last month for under $200, it came with an SSD to run my OS and server, and I connected two external hard drives - one with my media and the second for backups. Make sure you enable high performance power settings to prevent it from going to sleep but otherwise it runs really well. I was looking at a NAS etc but this ended up costing me under $500 and no ongoing fees

Plenty on here just run a Synology or similar NAS, but certainly depends on your upstream connection in the level of quality for accessing remotely. I went the Synology for simplicity, certainly could have implemented something cheaper but didn't want to invest much time in setup or ongoing management.

Hey I'm a little late to see your post here, so not sure if you've found your solution. Wanted to offer my personal use case as an example that might help.

I've been using seedbox.io for a number of years, and started with their app storage end of 2021. I pay around AU$120 for 2TB storage, and only ftp the ones I want to keep for offline watch. Otherwise, I would stream from the seedbox storage via plex, even at home. In my 1+ year of the app/plex stream with them, only once there was a connection problem, which they quickly acknowledged and rectified, with frequent updates and status as well.

They recently changed their brand name to hostingby.design, and I think they're based in NL. Well, my server was in NL, not sure about now. So far, I've been happy with them and can recommend.

  • I'm even later, but I'm using ultra.cc and they have some servers in SG. I have no issues with Plex Direct Playing 4-5 10Mbps 1080p and their support is fantastic.
