General Consensus on Mercedes Benz GLC 200

Hi All,

Recently I've been browsing the market for new mid-sized SUVs and stumbled upon Mercedes Benz having a sale on their GLC 200s, probably to clear inventory.

My question is, what is the general consensus around this vehicle, is it a reliable machine to be used for 5 years then sell (post-warranty) or is it a bit cheap and tacky for the price? I was also looking at the Lexus NX and RX models but those have 1-2 year delivery windows whereas the GLC is currently in stock.

Thanks!

Bet you've already got your mind set on it. Since you're only planning on keeping it until the end of warranty, just go buy it. (They're nice cars, as long as you don't need to pay for repairs).

  • At least it is RWD

      Deja vu!
I've just been in this place before (higher on the street)
And I know it's my time to go
      Calling you
And the search is a mystery (standing on my feet)
It's so hard when I try to be me, woah!

It's a nice car, apparently the most popular model out of the entire Merc catalog. There is a big interior upgrade on the new model tho.

Bargain website… Subjective opinion on 100k car purchase….🤔

    No mention of Tesla's yet..

Buy a car for half the price and send the rest of the money on an extravagant holiday. You will enjoy it more.

If you spend hours every single day in your car then I'd argue your car should feel like an extravagant holiday.

      • Buy a Landcruiser and enjoy a cruise every single day on the roads….

        • Whenever my wealthy friends have a party or bbq or whatever it looks like a Range Rover Owners meeting at the front of their house.

          • @AustriaBargain: The Repco owner of Karatha told me that he stopped selling Range Rover parts. He reckoned they were only good for the Meadows…..
Oh forgot: next time they meet, gate crash the party in a special "Harry" suit but with narrow moustache !!!

      Why?

not everyone enjoys the same things and not everyone enjoys a basic bitch car in their life. If you can afford it, why not? Life is meant to be lived, not spend inside with the light off with a 20 year old Camry in the driveway.

  • Sounds like a high yield investment vehicle, go for it!

If you want the Merc, buy it. Not everyone wants to drive a Camry.

    • But the Camry comes with a sweet V6. This Merc is a 2L 4 cylinder.

    • Janis Joplin drove a Porsche and made a song about Merc drivers. Later the Eagels defined Merc drivers in "Hotel California"…..

  • Yes

  • Been driving Mercs for a long time and also had a Merc SUV previously. Overall great experience with all my vehicles. Never had any major or minor issues other than wear and tear stuff. The only complain i have is that dealer servicing is pretty expensive. I usually get mine done at 3rd party shops outside of warranty which is less than half price. The GLCs are pretty solid platforms, it is not too small like GLA or not too big like the GLE. I personally think it is just right.

  • GLC is the most common Merc SUV model that average people drive not because it is a good car but those drivers would think people will think they rich and all but everyone knows its only a C class. I personally would get a GLE.

Why stop there? I personally would go for G wag 😉

          I am more Maybach

          • @Ade99: According to hoovies garage the Maybach has a 25 year factory warranty on the braking system.

          • @Ade99: perhaps, but it's not an SUV

Imagine working hard all your middle class life just to then blow on a C class….no not even, a GLC….a GLC 200.

      • +1

It is a middle-class SUV, otherwise, at least get Porsche Cayenne.

        • Cayenne GT at a minimum.

          • @MS Paint: So true, I have seen a fair amount of Porsche Cayenne around, even Maserati Levante getting a bit common lately.

      It's 100k, not exactly cheap

      • Merc sacked ALL dealers and turned them into sham contractors.
Now if they don't sell a package with Merc finance they go broke!

    • Why stop at GLE? get a EQE SUV

I say no, but only for financial reasons. It’s your money, who am I to say a RAV4 is so much better value, or that a Model Y is much more energy efficient, or that an Ionic 5 has a much better look combined with EV smug factor.

    • When everyone talks about Penfolds grange, someone has to jump in with their likeness of Aldi skinless. To be honest, if I got $100k to blow, I wouldn't buy any of them.

      • Yeah. Me either. I’d pick a $50k car and have a brilliant holiday or 3.

Mercedes SUVs have ALWAYS been a joke.
Post 2010 all Mercedes became a joke.
Unreliable money pits with a screw the customer warranty.

    • I thought it they went downhill in the 90s after Lexus was launched and they had to rush new untested innovations to markets to try and compete.

  • As someone who cannot afford 90k on a car it looks like, not that i would expect much less from Merc

  • Wasn't too keen on the GLC to begin with, saw some reviews saying the interior finishing and quality of build was not representative of a 90k pricetag. Looks like I didnt get many technical comments, but reading through its been quite an interesting discussion. The biggest incentive was the immediate stock availability, (I'm a much bigger fan of the Lexus, cheaper to own and arguably nicer finishing but asked dealer and got told no stock for this year so …) Guess I'll explore other in stock alternatives.
    Cheers

This electric car looks like lambo SUV if that's what you are going for.

      That's about the size of a Corolla…

      • Yeah but looks like mamboghini mommy ultra. From a distance could look bigger so like the real thing 😉.

  • If you have not purchased the GLC200, I would recommend GLC300 4matic or GLC43 if you got the budget.
