this seems like a very situational appliance, that'll likely sit in the cupboard for many years.

I'll just get the aluminium pie tray for the 2 times in my lifetime that I bake a pie.

      Not if you like pies.

Its no different to those sandwhich makers.

You can make way more variety of foods in a sandwich maker.

With a bit of imagination and recipes from the intarwebz. Theres heaps.

Do you have to choose between the two? An air fryer can do more than a toaster but you’d want both if you eat both toast AND schnitzels

    • you would be surprised how many ways this appliance can be used - https://www.sunbeam.com.au/hints-and-tips/piemaker-recipes?f…

I'll eat my humble pie then.

I've got one of these. Use it a couple of times a month for home made pies and super easy quiche style meals.

          • @MS Paint: egg base lies eg quiche is what i was thinking ….does this pie maker makes the biggest pies so it’s a meal for 1 person , they have a 2 pie version are the pockets smaller ?

            • +1

@garage sale: A pie/quiche from these is definitely a meal for an adult. Chuck some home cut potatoes into the airfryer and it's a quick and easy meal that's half healthy depending on your fillings.

Also makes awesome dessert pies. I like apple pie with a hint of cinnamon and a heap of vanilla bean ice cream. Yummmmmmm.

              • @MS Paint: bought one …. only gotcha might be how many pies per pastry sheet ….hopefully they designed pie size to minimise waste per sheet., would hate to collect off cuts and roll out , let’s see how smart the sunbeam designers were ….

                • @garage sale: I use shortcrust for the base. There is a bit of wastage. I can make 3 bases out of 2 sheets by getting creative.
For the pies lids I use puff pastry and there is bugger all wastage. 4 lids from 1 sheet.

        • lollll

    • 100% agree. We had one, used it a few times then took it to the Salvo's

      • four n twenty angus pies are great and about $2.50 in packs of 4 ….. so for some people just for pie there are easier ways than making them ….. for me it will be flavours …..egg smoked salmon potatoe and chives , etc and those pies are like $8 each at deli or bakery ….
gadgets … yep some never get use, but my sandwich press gets used 4 times per week ….pizza maker once per week ….omelette maker still in box after 2 years …

  • Kmart pie maker is good enf <- have this one… its great for occasional use
Aldi pie maker even better if you can get a hold of it

both half price of this one…

I want KFC Zinger Pie back…

  • Not sure if this have changed in 25 years, but the biggest issue with these pie makers is the size. Don't be deceived by how big the top is, there is a huge lip on the top and the bottom tapers off hard, and by the time that you line it with pastry they are way too small, all pastry no filling. We had the dual pie maker, and waiting for a pie to be cooked, then to cool, and an adult can easily eat two of these, It just becomes a bit of a joke.

I could maybe recommend the ones that do a single whole pie, but in that case why not get a normal pie dish and do it in the oven, also give you an opportunity to bake some veggies on the side, or use that oven air fryer you already bought if you are thinking of one of these

    • These new Sunbeam models (2 pie and 4 pie) have a extra deep cavity which approximate the size of a conventional 'Mrs Mac' pie. I have chosen the Sunbeam product for the very concerns you outline. The Pie Magic Traditional Size 4 Up takes 1/2 metric cup of filling. https://www.sunbeam.com.au/kitchen-and-home/cooking/pie-waff…
