What to Do for a Layover in Dubai

I got a stop over in Dubai for 13 hours before my connecting flight, what affordable activities I can do? I don’t mind paying up to 100$AUD. I want to see the Arabian desert, culture as well as the Burj Khalifa.

  • Desert safari might be possible. Don't think Burj Khalifa can be done in under $100, at least not the top floors when I was there.

  • Depends on the day of the week. On a Friday things are usually closed, a single plane transfer can take many hours.

  • Honestly the Burj will give you a lot to do, especially if you're going via the Metro

My recomendations are the museum of the future (Book in advance), the frame, the palm or the indoor skiing.

You could probably do two in that time

  • who you flying with? emirates? you can get a free hotel if it's a long layover (conditions apply)

  • For 13 hours, the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall downstairs will do it.

Also worth considering though you won't have time:
    - Museum of the Future
    - The Frame
    - Mall of the Emirates (where the indoor ski stadium is)
    - Citi Walk (mixed use development area; the place really impressed me when I was there)
    - Ain Dubai (closed atm though)

  • Go to the Souks and get some Gold.

  • if you want to take a shower for about $20, go to the 1st floor g-force health club and pay for a shower. don't go to the mahabi lounge like everyone else, constantly booked out.

  • Lay over.

You're not really going to get much of the first two in Dubai, and you're not going to get much of the last thing under $100.

If there are two things that the leaders of Dubai wish it were not, it's literally desert, and Arabian culture. It the furthest thing from the desert a place in the middle of the desert can be, and the furthest thing away from Arabian culture as a place in the Middle East can be.

Have sex out of marriage, drink a beer on the streets and of course proclaim your homosexuality.

you might even get more 13hours of time in dubai after doing it as well, which is a bonus

    • Steady on, he's not a local and so can't flout the law like that.

    Don’t do anything gay

I want to see the Arabian desert, culture

    I admit, I haven't been to Dubai since 2002.

But even back then, the only culture I saw was separation of sexes on public transport, the Emiratis treating every foreigner like shit and admittedly a bit more desert in town than whatever it'd be like now.
