the best game i never knew i needed. i've never been so impressed with a game i knew so little about before purchasing. this was EASILY my goty the year it released, i struggled to put it down.

nothing even came close to scratching the same itch til i played the shit out of Hades a few months later

Agreed. I even payed full retail for it on release and never regretted it for a second. A genuinly incredible game that deserves all the hype.

      • Another +1 here. I got it with my PS5 almost 2 years ago and only just beat the final boss for the first time a few weeks ago after playing on and off the entire time. Excellent game, easily one of the best on the PS5.

        • +2

You beat it for the first time.

          Get back in there!

    • It's crazy how it wasn't even nominated for GotY.

  • I played Recturnal at a friends place for a couple of hours and I would highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of the metroid series. However, I will wait another year till it drops into the classic price range. I am ass-tight.

Recturnal, ass… What is your profession or obsession?

      • +1

        Prison warden

        • +1

I'll stop. I'm just feeding the troll

    • hows it like metroid game - can you save?

      • similarities between the two, such as their sci-fi themes and emphasis on exploration

      • it is a roguelike, if that answers your 'save' question. it's all about the progress you make on individual runs, which helps you in your next run etc.

        • yeah, dont usually like those, might have to try it for "free" first

Been a gamer for over 20+ years, this is one of the best games I have played. Just no-nonsense, straight up thriller from the start to finish. Got it on PS5 but going to play again on PC.

Edit - Purchase the game from the link. Paid with PayPal. Got an email saying I have to send government issued Photo ID for verification before they can send me game code. Seems like a scam. Not going to send my photo IDs just to buy a game. Now I have to bloody waste time and energy trying to get the money back!!!!!!!!!!

Edit 2 - Got the refund from Instant Gaming. Ended up buying the game from CdKeys for $67. No personal ID shit, just paid with paypal and got the Steam code right away.

      Thanks for the updates.
What's everyone elses experience been with this retailer?

      • +1

Same as o2saint, I've had them request Photo ID and had to request a refund. It's not worth it.

    • This happened to me ages ago, think they do it with newly created accounts. I never gave it to them and now like a year later i can buy games without having to give it to them

    • Strange - I paid via PayPal and wasn't asked for any Photo ID - glad you got a copy in the end

    • Paid with cc, wasn't asked for photo id

  • isnt this a grind fest

    • +1

Really depends on how you define 'grind'. Sure it's a grindfest but the grind is Fun, it's not like MMO grind where you're just clicking on boars for hours. It's one of the best third-person shooters I've played from a gameplay standpoint. I cleared the game on PS5 but I'm probably going to buy it on PC just to play through again with a mouse and ultrawide monitor. Can't wait to get back into the grind.

      • will I play for 6 hrs and not be able to save still - starting from beginning, some have said its like metroid games which I like, Hades on the other hand i did not enjoy after a while.
i dont like same map over and over again

        • It's more like Hades than Metroid in that regard, yeah. If you don't like losing all your gear and starting from scratch when you die you probably won't like this.

    • No, since it’s a roguelite where if you die, you lose all your stuff save for the permanent upgrades you unlock. Not sure anyone’s done it but if you’re good enough, you might be able to beat the entire game in just one run (or technically two).

  • GOTY 2021 for me. Graphics, gameplay, integration with the dualsense controller is top notch. Story is great. Yes it's frustrating, yes it's a grindfest, yes I almost broke a controller but it was very rewarding to finish this game. Highly recommend it.

  • Is that a legit site or a grey market site??

Cheapest I can find from a legit key re-seller is $67.73

    But yes, awesome game! 👍

I have to admit to being a little disappointed by this one. I'm a huge fan of Housemarque's games prior to this, I love the way they took classic arcade games and created highly polished, modern interpretations of those classics. I'm also a fan of Roguelikes, so I was looking forward to them putting a similar spin on those as they had previously done with those classic arcade games. But I just couldn't get into it. Part of it is due to the difficulty, but even then the difficulty was mainly around the fact that all of the enemies are just bullet sponges. Shooters become a lot less fun when you feel like all your weapons are underpowered, even when you get the levelled up versions. Doesn't matter what gun you use, none of them feel like they actually have any impact on the things you're shooting - you have to look at the health bars just to tell if you're even hitting them or not.

It's certainly not a bad game, but Housemarque's previous track record combined with all the hype for this one probably caused me to set my expectations too high.
