Looks like the cheapest ever and it should be possible to cusomize this office chair to your liking (colour, configuration) by contacting their support team.

$887.99 (48% off original price of $1,732). Clarification from @PlushyAngel regarding delivery:
Delivery fees and charges are included in the listed purchase price, for delivery to areas within 30km of Sydney (Postcode: 2000) and Melbourne (Postcode: 3000). • Had one for nearly 2 years great chair

      • +1

$500 per year is too much for a chair.

  • +1

Honestly the best chair I've ever sat in next to the Leap v2, I wish I bought one instead of the Buro Tidal i bought.

  • +1

I’ve had this chair for about four months now and it’s phenomenal.

    • Did you get the lumbar support?

      • Also curious if its worth it. $880 delivered to me without lumbar or $1,115 delivered from Stylecraft. Is the lumbar worth the extra $235?

      • +2

I did get the lumbar support and I'm a very big fan of it. If I had my time over I would absolutely get it. As for its $235 cost… Expecting the chair to last the full 10 years of it's warranty that is $23.50 per year, I sit in this chair for roughly 40 hours a week… 100% worth it for me.

        • ordered one a week ago but still yet to get any tracking info. did you get yours delivered, if so how long was delivery?

          • +1

@Patat: Mine was custom-made and shipped from the states I think it took a couple of months.

  • This one doesn’t have lumbar support, right?

    • +1

Nope, this looks like the same one at Officeworks with no 4D arms, or extra lumbar support. This one does - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/755518

      • +1

Went to Stylecraft last week to try it out and can confirm lumbar support is amazing.

        • $880 Fern without lumbar or $736 Zody with lumbar?

  • Is the lumbar support worth it?

    • +1

At this kind of price you would be severely disappointed if the chair came without it.

      • Officeworks sells it $100 more than this and without lumbar

        • +1

Yeah but did you see the link above? It was previously available with Lumbar for only $100 more.

@n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Actually it's still available according to the post the deal isn't expired.

Also what's with the downvote I am trying to help you out.
If you are spending close to $1k on a chair wouldn't you expect it to have lumbar support?
The version of the Hawthorn in this deal (and at Officeworks) is without lumbar, and the comment above says the one in the deal I/they linked is the same price as OW but for the version with lumbar.

If you don't want to spend that much look at the IKEA options, which have their own issues of course but you pay much less.

Edit: Maybe I wasn't clear enough, linked deal offers you lumbar version for the same price as OW non lumbar version.
Also new comment down the bottom says the store in this deal we are commenting on will not be able to do the chair for $890, you need to customize it and they said the price is not possible.

Thanks for the shoutout @oleglap lol

Delivery is only free for certain areas in Australia. From the product page:

For all other states, territories and areas (Excluded Areas), external to the referred 30km radius, an additional delivery fee is payable

    Thanks OP, PlushyAngel,

I've been looking for a new chair for a while and this looks like it ticks a number of boxes!

I emailed the support team to explore customisation options (and any extra price). I'll post back if there's anything interesting but the quoted response time was 96 hours.

The websites here and here suggest some of the options, which might be useful reading. No idea how many are practical until I hear back from them.

    From reading a few reviews:
    - All things being equal it sounds like the lumbar might be worth it, and it should be removable if you don't like it. You can't order it separately later (?)
    - A good portion of the reviews didn't love the headset, so I'm planning to go without that.

    • +2

I contacted them about using this price as the base price and adding customisation at extra cost, but unfortunately they came back saying they can't do it at this price, only at the Officeworks price. Here's hoping you hear differently from them.

They actually have an online configurator you can use to visually see what it looks like from their website and send that to them for a quote: Haworth Fern Online Configurator.

      • How much does it cost for 4D arms, lumbar support and headrest after discount?

        • Thanks @PlushyAngel

I had a tinker with the online tool, but it was painful to explore all the fabric options!

I'd absolutely expect the pricing to increase with the options, but it's not clear how much more for each addition. The US website can be used as an indicator because it'll update the price as the quote changes. Using those numbers and starting with a plain black chair comes up with:

Digital knit fabric ~$150USD (black knit, some colours vary in price)
          Lumbar support ~$84USD
Forward tilt (included in the deal, but would otherwise be ~$74USD)
          Aluminium frame ~$140USD
4D Arms ??? (not quoted separately)

          Hopefully that helps @JensenHuangAndHis

If so that would be an extra ~$375USD or ~$540AUD for everything plus whatever the arms cost. That's doing the variables independently, but it matches pretty closely to the total if you do put all the options on. It's possible that some combinations might be cheaper or more expensive I guess. Notably they seem to chare more for certain colours.

          • @MrBlueSky: @PlushyAngel Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated! I just bought the last Fern($1650) from StylecraftOUTLET and called it a day. Hopefully the chair won't be a disappointment.

          • +1

@MrBlueSky: Apparently the digital knit fabric is not available in Australia, have you managed to get a quote on one?

        • +2

For me, they quoted 106 for headrest, 20 for 4d arms and 65 for lumbar.

          Aluminium base was 65.

          • @PlushyAngel: Is that AUD or USD? Also, curious to see which ones you reckon are worth adding (I’m thinking lumbar and 4d arms)

            • +1

@Patat: AUD. Yeah I would say lumbar and 4D arms for sure. I opted out of the headrest because reviewers said it wasn't good.

I didn't see an option for the digital knit backrest fabric but that might be a worthy addition as well if they have it.

              • @PlushyAngel: Assuming that brings the total to $973? That’s a pretty good price! How long did they say delivery would be for a customised versions? Conscious the standard one is 5-10 business days.

                • @Patat: Unfortunately, they said to me that they cannot use the price on their website ($887.99) as the base price, only the Officeworks price, so it would be 989+extra costs for anything additional. They might tell you differently but that's what I've heard. Let me know if you hear differently.

They said 11 weeks to get it manufactured and delivered. I started to order it around 4th Jan and it is getting delivered around 15th March.

                  • @PlushyAngel: Ah that’s unfortunate. In that case don’t think I’d go ahead with the Fern, will just probably get the Zody instead, but thanks for all the info!

                    • +1

@Patat: Why not buy it from Stylecraft's outlet store? That version not only includes the additional lumbar and 4D arms but aluminium base as well. I didn't know until I received the invoice. I'm yet to receive the chair though :(

                      • @paisedo: good point, but delivery to my area is $125 from Stylecraft, so adds up to $1,115, compared to the Zody delivered (free) for $737, hard to justify the extra $378 from Zody to Fern - what do you think?

                        • +2

@Patat: My recommendation would be to try them out if possible. I had made up my mind about getting Zody till I went and tried both the chairs. For me Fern was much comfier and provided better lumbar support for my lower back. It made my decision easier in justifying the extra cost to myself. At the same time chairs work very differently for everyone.

        • +1

          Thanks all,

I wasn't able to get a quote on digital knit and it's very possible it's not available (although they didn't go that far). I didn't get pricing numbers on upgrades from them yet, but sounds pretty good value from what PlushyAngel posted. There was good debate in reviews about the digital knit being plusher/padded, but also running hotter. Might be a factor for Australian climates, and could be why they dropped the wool option here.

I also got the same line about needing to use the Officeworks price as the starting price for upgrades.

I'm also leaning towards getting a standard black chair via Stylecraft. Aiming for a showroom visit later today to check, and then I'll probably pull the trigger. Otherwise if there's poor stock at Stylecraft a custom chair seems around the same price I guess, just slightly longer wait.

          • @MrBlueSky: Not sure if you had a chance to try the Fern with and without the lumbar support, if so what are your thoughts? Tried without lumbar at Officeworks and felt the lumbar was a bit weak for my liking, but no showrooms near me to try with lumbar. Read mixed reviews on the adjustable lumbar, some saying its way too stiff and better to go without it.

        • @Patat

Yes, I just got back from a visit over lunch. TL;DR I'll be getting the one with lumbar.

In the immediate moment I probably found the non-lumbar more comfortable, but I don't think it would be more comfortable for a session longer than 5 minutes. I also think it would have been hard to judge in full without playing a lot more with the chair settings (recline crank, etc), but I was happy enough with my test drive. As you say some of the reviews described the lumbar support as being "aggressive", but I didn't get that impression myself. I think it added more rigidity to the chair in terms of flex and made it feel less "hamock-y". Absolute worst case I can disassemble the chair to take it out if I change my mind (apprently complex, but reverseable) or just cut the support out (fast, but destructive).

The bigger shock for me was the 4D arms. They didn't seem to hold position super well, I was expecting more force to be required to move them from position to position. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but if I'm not satisfied later I suspect there's a tensioning screw I can crank down somewhere ;)

          Obviously YMMV

          • @MrBlueSky: I had the lumbar and just took it away. The lumbar makes this model too rigid and is horrible on the lower back.

I actually find non-lumbar plus an Ikea lumbar pillow-RAGGARV added into the back cavity to be ideal. I stole the idea of this reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/OfficeChairs/comments/w33y4k/finall…

This is a great chair. I still think the Steelcase Gesture has way better quality and at $1140 (last week on sale) for the fixed lumbar model it is better long-term value. The arms are also a lot better on the Gesture.

The Fern is great for tall people.

          • @MrBlueSky: So I've had the chair for a couple of weeks now, I just thought I'd update.

Overall I'm really enjoying it. The arms are more sturdy than I thought they'd be, and it's really comfortable. No negative points, but probably the biggest difference from my old chair is the level of contouring on the lower back. The Fern has a lot more give, which is something I'm adjusting to.

I'm recommending it to friends, and I'd consider getting another one if this was stolen ;)

incase anyone was wondering, OW won't price beat this because it needs a code to reduce the price…

  • StyleCraft just restocked a huge amount ! Hopefully the one I ordered isn't gonna be a lemon lol

  • This is an amazing chair and great value. I modified mine like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/OfficeChairs/comments/w33y4k/finall…

    • I'm using this pillow as a makeshift headrest lol

Got my Fern from Stylecraft picked up today. Been sitting in it for close to 3 hours now. What a great upgrade!

    • Can you please show us your fern with some pictures:D Mine is coming next Wed and I can't wait !

      • I'll share some later today :)

    • how are you finding the lumbar support? Is it firm?

      • It is when set at the highest level. Well supported where I need it to be.
