Lipton Ice Tea Now $3

The RRP price of Lipton Ice Tea 500ml is now $3 compared with $2.10 a week or so ago, across all supermarket chains.

How can a 33% increase be justified overnight?

Edit: why I am pissed is that the 500ml is not a product that gets specials. Almost never and 10% at best. Perhaps increasing the RRP will allow it to employ discount marketing campaigns though.

How do you know it was overnight? Maybe they changed the price during the day.

You buy it full price? If it’s not on at least 50% I don’t want to know about it

    • That's part of the issue. The 500ml don't go for half price in NSW supermarkets. And only the experimental flavours gets some discount on Amazon

      • I guess it’s the cost of convenience if you’re out and about… the Lipton ice tea 1.5l usually go for 2.5-$3, been a while since I went that way though as I went through a big Arizona iced tea phase …

Kinda, I don't drink it myself. I buy the 500ml because I can pawn them to school kids at soccer for $4 each.

Expensive, but when was the last increase in price? 33% overnight looks crazy , but if you were to tell me it's been the same price for 10 years and has now jumped 33% that would be an average increase of 3.3% a year

The water I buy went from $9.20 to $14.

To elaborate on the post, on Wednesday a ton of the "price locked products" at Supermarkets ended so you will notice over the next few weeks your grocery cost will significantly increase.

A day after the interest rate increased again…is like kicking a person while they are down. I do worry for families already doing it tough

And yes, I buy water. Lets stick to the topic and not go down that path of discussion…

      Crazy…I pay about $3/kl

      I buy water

We all buy water, just some more sensibly:)

I find the Lipton iced tea powder to be pretty good. Buy that and carry around a sachet or two and then you can mix into a bottle or glass of water! Head into a Maccas get a free water with ice. Use the straw for mixing. Equates to 65c per 600ml! (1 sachet would make approx 300ml)

Just make your own. Probably healthier too.

Except they want to buy it pre-bottled at $2.10 and then almost double the price to $4 to rip-off school children.

A reseller actually complaining cost is going up…life must be tough…

I sell it at a prestigious private school. I like to think of myself as a modern day Robin Hood.

Nice. But if you didn’t neg me, who did?
Must be one of those snooty private school kids that is hooked on your product…

          • @mapax: I may be a despicable troll, but I ain't a hater.

            • @CptnObvious: But as a troll you have to be filled with hate, don’t you? At least that’s what all the whiny, easily offended types seem to say…

              • @mapax: New age trolls are different. We ooze sophistication and class. I also love to target those self-righteous whiners. They are so self-focused they don't realise they are engaging in a pointless debate with me.

What I find funny with pricing is something like this…..

A 600mL bottle of coke at woolies is $4.05. A 1.25L bottle at the same place is $2.10. That's about half the price for more than twice as much. I guess they figure that most people wouldn't want to carry around a 1.25L bottle that's at room-temperature.

Thew one that shits me the most is the price of a bottle of water.

    • Capitalism

      • No. Capitalism aims for competitive markets, which we don’t have in food retail atm.
I guess in a Capitalist market you would shop around and buy a cheaper product, or stop buying - thus forcing competition and forcing prices down.
But there’s only 4 places to buy it who appear to match prices and you probably won’t make your own (although quite easy), so you’ll pay.

It's because it's chilled haha. I wonder what the margins are like on chilled drinks, accounting for the energy cost.

  • Anyone know if Aldi have a similar variant.

Why would anyone ever buy a pre-made tea in a plastic bottle? Stick to tea bags and save a fortune by putting it in your fridge yourself.

    • I know right? But those rich school kids demand it

That's quite a big jump. Everytings getting so expensive nowadays, it sucks.

I saw another thread like this already, but yeah forgot to share my prices.

Coles/Woolies brand tissue box's used to be 80c a box I think. Then jacked last year to $1, then jacked now to $1.70 each.

I have noticed Coles/Woolies brand spaghetti pasta is steady though. $1 a pack everyday. (I see 90c a pack on the Coles website now, but I swear the one I get is a dark green colour and $1).

Also prefer Coles spaghetti over Woolies spaghetti. Woolies spaghetti is a bit thinner and worse tasting IMO.

    • Also what happened to that "down down prices are down" jingle? They yanked that one right quick didn't they lol.

  • Costco do / did a 12 pack that was good value. Last time we were there they didn't have it though.

  • Er….don’t buy it?

That stuff is so easy to make for yourself anyway - and you can customise it to taste very easily.
I’m sure that your donation to the profit margin of your retailer of ‘choice’ Is appreciated.

My customers like the bottled stuff, and schools don't look down well on pre-mixed pee.

      • In that case, they’ll pay….👍
