A decent price for an entry level dash cam from a well regarded brand.

This is close to the lowest price reported on CamelCamelCamel of $149.99 in November 2022.

The only other thread discussing the dash cam is located here.

Any combo deals? (front and back)

    • +2

I'm also keen for the A129+
Would appreciate a deal if anyone has one

  • Does this work with an A129 rear?

  • +3

    $159 with ebay plus.
$198 with Ebay Plus for the A129 Duo.

    • +1

Will we ever get the amazing $99 A129 Duo deal back? :(

      • been told it was an error price, hardly will us see that price again

        • Wasn't it a lightning deal?

    • I have ebayplus but its $164 for me. But both prices are higher than what OP has with Amazon link

    • +1

use code SFEB15 for 15% off (non ebay plus)

    • Note it's not the popular A129 Plus Duo, the non-plus is only 1080p at the front.

    This has usb-c too!!

  • Is this better than the v3 ? Same price on Amazon.

    • OP's post is the newer model. Not sure if better or worse.

    2 questions:
    - Does the sticky tape last in the Australian sun?
    - Is the included cable long enough to go behind trim and reach the 12V lighter power plug?

    • +7

      1) I had mine for 4 years. never had any issue with the tape
      2) yes it is long enough to reach the power plug

    • Yes, sticky tape outlasted the camera (~3 years)

  • Whats a good "dumb" dashcam with capacitor, don't need any bells and whistles such like wifi, gps and app connectivity etc.

    • Viofo A119 pro

    • Try bluskysea b1w. Its small, easily hidden and 1080p.

I have it for back and front. Probably not good for hardwiring and parking monitoring.

  • I feel the quality of Viofo products might be slipping up. While I have read this in occasional reviews, didn't expect this happen to me. One of the cams randomly stops turning on. Need to un/plug the cable to get it going. Very very risky. Not a happy camper with Viofo having owned several of their products. Thankfully, was in warranty - but they wouldn't honour it till I could make a video of this happening.

    • My shitty jaycar one does exactly that after 7 years of use.

      Worth it for 50 bucks

    • Would buying it from Amazon solve the warranty issue?

  • Any dash cam works on its own/ in built battery?

    • Generally they don't - would be more risky to have it do that because the harsh Aussie sun tends to kill batteries in dashcams (which is why capacitor based cameras are more reliable here). GoPros can work on battery but they are already notorious for overheating without being mounted in the sun.

    • I run mine from a power bank. 128Gb card holds around 12 hours of 1080p @ 60fps.

FWIW my experience is that a higher frame rate is more important than a higher resolution in a moving vehicle.

30fps at 4K can give you a high definition blurry shot, while 60fps (or higher) at 1080 can give you a much sharper image if you need a shot of a number plate on a moving car - especially if it is moving across your vision.

Now if we had 120fps at 4K……….

Now if we had 120fps at 4K……….

…then you would have a next-gen console now wouldn't you?

  • Use this with Amazon $210 voucher for $200? : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/755436. Obviously a bit left over.

  • +1

Deal expired? Price is now $179.00.

  • It’s back on a lightning deal. 19 remaining when I ordered.

  • $149 on viofo site atm
