Seeking help to purchase a reliable smoke alarm for a rental property in ACT

Hi

I am looking to install a 10 year lithium smoke alarm in a rental property. (Not hardwired 240V as I am not a sparky). I am at Bunnings Belconnen (ACT) and I was looking at installing Quell Professional Brand part number 132820.(https://www.bunnings.com.au/quell-10-year-battery-photoelect…). However, on Bunning's website it has shit reviews, poor battery life, 1.8 stars out of 40+ review.

Here is alarm from the same brand

Any advice in getting a smoke alarm in the ACT?

Can't find anything on Middy's due to having peanuts as brains. Too hard to find prices and items.

  • Awful alarms, its the humidity messes them up. The data sheet says not to be installed where the humidity exceeds 85%, which in Australia is ridiculous. You might be fine in the ACT.
Clipsal are good, but a lot more expensive, If they're going to play up, its usually upon installation. Most of the ones Bunnings sell aren't very good, but returns are easy, and I imagine they're used to it.

For a rental, wouldn't it just be cheaper/easier in the long run to have hardwired smoke detectors? Means you don't have to deal with the batteries each year etc

This isn't really something you cheapen out on

FYI hard wired smoke alarms are required in WA

Not to mention hardwired ones will trigger the others when one is triggered

      • Isn't the the whole point these days ? They're all meant to be linked

        • Yes hardwired ones are but the battery one op has linked with the poor reviews does not support the function (neither does the other one they linked with the carbon monoxide detector function)

    Can't go wrong.

I've had an earlier version of the model in for nearly five years and it's always done exactly what it needs to do.

    This works too https://www.catch.com.au/product/cavius-nano-photoelectric-s…

    • Just got a bunch of these from bunnings clearence sale at $12 each… was very happy. They look and feel expensive. ordered a remote online for them too

The Emerald Ranger ones here are 10yr interconnect ones. Have these, and bought more for a reno job, work great and aren't a no-name generic brand.

Basically works out to be about $60 per alarm and $20 per remote, and you can pick whichever size bundle you need

    • These actually look pretty good

I agree but there is no mention of brand or manufacturer that I could see. Might check AliExpress to see if I can find them there.
