Motherboard suggestion for AMD 5800X

Hi,

Could someone please suggest a bang for your buck motherboard for a AMD 5800x please. Been away from building computers for a while now and not up to date with the market.

Ideally 2 nvme slots will be good and internal wifi, bluetooth will be a plus. No big deal if there isn't.
I will also be using my old GTX 970 (card will be upgraded in near future)

Budget is $150~200 and Amazon links will be great as I have some left over gift cards.

Also open to RAM (32gb) and PSU thanks.

  • The top tier AM4 boards are a bit of a short supply right now, even full priced its hard to find stock. Especially on Amazon. The Steel Legend X570 at $300 was probably the best bang for buck board on Amazon in the last month (I checked everyday), and its now $350, and if you get one of the older one that hasn't had the BIOS updated to be compatible with the 5000 series or know someone with an older CPU that could boot it to update the BIOS its another 50-100 bucks at your nearest computer store, so I cancelled my order (top tier board featurewise, but no BIOS Flashback for some god forsaken reason).

The Asrock B550 Steel Legend is 199 at Scorptec and will be back in stock on the 21st according to their site if you can wait. Top tier board feature wise, very good VRM, no Wifi/Bluetooth built in but it does have an E-Key M2 slot and space on the IO Shield so you can add your own Intel AX200 card and wifi connector. Its a B550 board though, so only one of the two NVME slot will be PCIE4. If you want to put in more than one PCIE4 NVME drive, you'll need a X570 board, which will set you back an extra hundred bucks give or take. Most of them comes with good wifi chipset though so its closer to ~50 gap

Also, here's a handy document that I used as reference to look for options. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Lh6rHph31fiuijaZA0cf…. I ended up buying the B550M Tomahawk from JW Computer through Kogan for 255+shipping, though the X570 Steel Legend at 300 from Amazon would've been a way better deal if I had a way of ensuring it came with the right BIOS version out of the box.

As for PSU, if you're getting the mobo from Scorptec, they carry the MSI MPG A-GF series which ranks pretty high on the tier list: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/. 750w is out of stock though, and 850w is a bit overkill/650w can be a bit low depending on the card you're planning to upgrade to. Amazon carries them directly and through 3rd party resellers as well if you want to use your giftcards

PCPartPicker is a great resource to use when looking at this sort of stuff. You can then google reviews based on what comes up and decide from there:

  • Do you already have the 5800X? If not, you're potentially building yourself into a dead end. AM4 won't be upgradeable for much longer, and DDR4 RAM won't be transferable to a future build. Ryzen 4 CPUs are tumbling in price, and will go down even more with non-X versions, and cheaper mobos coming out soon.

    • Unfortunately I bit the bullet and already have the 5800.
Was considering selling the CPU but not worth it so may as well commit to building a new PC
