Hi guys
I'm taking my 3 months Annual leave
I'm planning on going to Canada mid Nov
For snowboarding and exploring,
Then back to England to visit family for just under a month for Christmas,
Then I'm going to Japan, then back to Brisbane
I'm trying to figure out what's worth exploring during the winter time in Europe?
I have about a month's worth of time to spend exploring
Does anyone have any recommendations on countries and places to visit?
Ive been to Paris and found it was a bit of a s*thole at least the touristy parts
I have about $20k saved up for my trip so monkey isn't too much of an issue
I don't drink, Im a beginner snowboarder,
I like to hike, I like to visit nature, instead of cities (unless they're unique)
Much appreciated
Where to Visit in Europe January Time?

Head to Switzerland if you like skiing or boarding or gorgeous snow capped mountains or green luscious country side.
Zurich if you can afford it - nice and central and lots of good places to eat and awesome public transport.
Hopping on a train to go to France, Austria, Germany, Italy, etc is pretty convenient.
Slovenia. One of my fav European countries for both summer and winter. Small enough to get around (if you hire a car) and really affordable. Plenty to see and do.
I'd second this… Slovenia is amazing!!
Only 3 months leave annually? What is this, America?
Jeez I wish I could take off 3 months leave!
It is actually super simple to get 3 months off work.
The tricky bit is getting paid during those 3 months.

I’d head around the Med, not as chilly and few crowds that time of year. Spain, Portugal, Southern France, Italy, Greece - all beautiful destinations.
I’m glad monkey isn’t an issue. I was about to ask.
I saw that movie "Outbreak" where the Monkey was a problem.
But it was African (not European) and it was fictious, so no real problem.
But if you think it is a problem, seek help, it won't be cheap paying for hours that last for about 50 minutes.
We're talking mucho dinero, and probably some American money too.Maybe OP is referring to their heroin addiction? I'm confused.
They may have a Monkey on(or in) their back(pack) either way.
We all wish them well.
zoos (or AFP) may wish to contact the OP because you can't travel with Monkeys (live or of the pharma variety) easily.
If you didn't like Paris, I assume you'd prefer mind-blowing mountain scenery than dirty old cities. In that case, Switzerland, Austria and northern Italy would interest you more. But the alps will be very cold and snowy in January.
get some beers in Prague, some good coffees in Vienna (sorry Melbs), and a pork knuckle in Munich. These cities are amazing in January.
Is it me, or does OP's post reads like coding?
var leave = 3
var loc = CA
var month = Nov
for 1 to 2
do a, b, c
If m
then n
if x
then yThe Alps offer plenty good snow but the powder in Hokkaido can be better. Do this on way home.
Hit the snow fields outside school holidays and weekends. Europeans celebrate Saturday nite.
Savings tip: In Luzern get a 10 day Tell pass (online QR code is quickest) CHF 220.00 and get about 1 grand's worth of cable car and lift tickets.
Watch out for cheap day passes, sometimes for 42 bucks you can ride all trains for nearly 24h. Pay 20 extra and upgrade to first class.
Make sure travel insurance pays for snow activities. Plenty of stay deals if booked well ahead. If you spend $5K on airfares, that's $15K for 90 days @$167, I expect you'll run out of monkey
Annual leave. They'll be getting paid during.
Ah yes, good point!
I like to hike, I like to visit nature, instead of cities
Definitely Switzerland
so monkey isn't too much of an issue
You won't find many monkeys there unless you go to the zoo.
There is a large population of Barbary Macaques on the rock of Gibraltar in the south west of Europe, making them the only monkey native to Europe.
since you mentioned monkeys aren't a problem, Gibraltar might be a good place for you.
go up the rock you will get your monkeys worthMost countries have hiking and nature but some will be cold, snowy, not very user friendly at that time, short days (fine for snow sports though). Your best bet is somewhere like Greece, especially Crete; Spain (including Canary Islands), Portugal (eg Rota Vicentina, dont forget Madeira). Sicily is good as well. Well 'best bet' if you want hiking without the winter issues. Morocco but its cities are less than glamourous.
If it were me I would go to Greece or Croatia or Portugal. You can get a mix of nature, history, they arent that expensive (Switzerland….), will be pleasant. However they arent mountainous or spectacular like the Alps
I wouldn't go to the Ukraine.
Switzerland?
