Bad idea to get this imo. It has no trigger, paddle or safety switch for said trigger. It’s just a latching on or off switch at full bore, so no control either :(

There are reviews on Dewalt site and YT that back this up.

(Unless I mucked up looking at which model this is)

    • Pretty sure this has the paddle switch.

There’s a toggle you need to slide up before you can depress it.

      • I checked again and yep you are right, so the correction to my post is “No trigger” 👍 I would still not buy this due to that, full bore is not what I want all the time

        • I think I’m mistaken actually. Mines a 406.

I don’t use it much but it does what I expect a grinder to do shrug

      so no control either :(

Is there such a thing as a grinder with trigger control?

Every single one I've ever used is just on/off, some with soft start/quick stop but no speed control.

      • Pulsing the trigger manually

I cannot imagine that's good for the longevity of your grinder.

          • @OZKap: On drills yeah it’s terrible but what would be impacting the grinder by using the spin down speed for a lighter touch occasionally?

    • There’s times you want the switch as well .nothing wrong with them at all .

    • I have one of these, received it in a pack. It's fine - I thought the switch would annoy me to no end but once you put on some safety gloves it all feels pretty natural and lets you concentrate on a good hold rather then holding a paddle. Each to their own though.

My Grindr angle is 69 degrees baby!

  • 406 is the paddle

    • You should edit this to state “405/406” as you state 405 in your main post

The 405 is the one in the kit, the 406 is the paddle switch.the video link shows this.

  • So is this 405 ok. Or is the 406 the better design?

Switches are a matter of preference. Same kit otherwise.

  • The Bunnings website lists this grinder model as DCZ400M1-XE

That's the kit number, not the grinder.

I've got a paddle setup on my air die grinder, drives me nuts. I find any form of stupid proofing tools annoying.

    • I zip tie them up… or remove it.

  • This is that silly one with the awkward side switch?

    • Side switch up near the guard and then paddle

  • The model number of the grinder is DCZ400-XE. The kit number is DCZ400M1. It looks and may indeed be or similar to the 405 model with the side switch. They are both listed on the DeWalt site. Many of the listings of the kit on other sites look to be incorrect. The kit I just bought from Bunnings does not mention 405 or 406 anywhere on the tool or in the documentation. It looks to be a solid and well built grinder and good value with battery etc.

    • I noticed a 2 very minor differences in the images. The handle is slightly different and one says brushless on the side and the other doesnt. They are both brushless though.

It isnt a 405 though what the real important differences are, if any, I don't know.

    • Show me a link to this dcz400-xe grinder

  • I have quite a few angle grinders and none of them has variable speed. I have one sander polisher and that has variable speed. I always thought that was what you bought if you wanted variable speed.
