nbn Address Listed for The Wrong Floor, Does It Matter or It Won't Work?

I'll soon move to a new apartment (the place is not new) and I was checking on superloop or aussie bb websites whether this address was eligible for NBN.

It recognize my address but it says my unit is in Floor 5 (while it is on floor 3).

I am wondering if this is just a typo error and won't affect my connection, or if this won't work and I would need someone from NBN to come and check the wiring in the building?

Do you have any idea?

PS: This is FTTN/B

Thanks folks

    Do you have any idea?

    No

  • we also have address/unit messed up by the NBN corp…
as long as when the technician who come to connect your nbn connect it to your unit , it will be fine (if not already connected), should not be affected if only floor (as they do not really care)

Maybe will have to wait til you actually there or ask current tenant ?

    • Thanks,

I asked the agency to check with past tenants but haven't heard back.

    • (as they do not really care)

Are you implying that the NBN technicians are careless ?

There's no possible way for anyone here to answer that definitively. Contact NBN/provider, let them know about the discrepancy and hopefully they pass that on to the technician that attends to plug things in the building basement comms room.

    • Yes, I did contact them. They wanted ask a NBN person to update/check it. I told them to wait.

The thing is, maybe this is just a typo that does not affect anything, and if they try to fix it, they might actually do more harm.

      • it takes less than 24 hours for them to update it.. normally

        • cool, sounds quick fix if it is finally an issue

    • I'm happy to look into this one as I own an ISP and have access to all the portals.
Email [email protected] or Private message me on hear with an address and I'll see what our systems throw back in terms of info.
Also as for an NBN tech Visit they might not need to as Churns are all automated now a days so unless your ordering a brand new service no tech is needed.
But generally apartment buildings have a comms room that equipment is setup in and then the individual services are fed from their.
In fact if you have it PM me the LocID as this is for the individual apartment NBN use this as an identifyer.
I can get this info if you don't have it.
Every NBN Connection has its own ID so don't share it publicly.

Let the folks on floor 5 pay for you!

    • Do you know them?

Type in your address and look up the Premise Location ID. That’s the most important detail to make sure you get NBN connected.

Past tenants or real estate agent unlikely will be helpful

    • Thanks, I did not know that tool, here is the result:

      POI name Civic
      CSA name Civic 2 CSA
      Premises location ID LOC0001361912
Premises technology Fibre To The Node
      Premises service class 11
Premises service class description Serviceable by copper, active node present
Premises readiness Ready to connect to the nbn!

Looks like there won't be any issue to connect it. thanks

  • You should talk to your body corporate about getting a free upgrade to FTTP as one should be available.
Fibre will be far better then FTTN.

  • Is this unit by any chance part of a University campus?
As when I looked up the LocID it didn't bring up any specific addresses but mentioned a heap of university assets.
You can't order NBN if your in a University owned apartment but they will give you free internet.
Most of the Universities get multiple links from Telstra generally 1GBPS ones that are then throttled down, they need to do that for the residences otherwise they would download the entire internet or at least try to.

    • They would try to download the entire pr0n library*

Nah I truncated the locID for privacy reason ^^

but thanks for looking, I'm close to UNI but not in a UNI apartment.

Oh Right, your chosen provider will need to have the full address including floor number and can update NBN Co if required.
Though NBN Co get the details from australia post so if you don't receive mail correctly that will be the reason.
Two really well organised Government departments working together.

  • So yeah just because a place has an NBN Loc ID it doesn't mean you can connect as some apartment buildings have agreements with other private Fibre providers.
