  • I am looking for a laptop for my kid. How about this one comparing to the one from OP?

    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-16-lap…

Do you have any recommendation around $1000 budget? Prefer to have 16gb ram. Thanks

Without looking very hard, this one with a DIY upgrade to 16gb?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/755124

      • Thanks. However would you think it's better to purchase 16gb ram laptop considering the price of 8gb is close to $900 and Dell's laptop has 16gb ram.

I recommend making an lenovo edu account and buying a thinkpad or 7i

      • Thank you. I saw this lenovo edu on the official website. I assume that my son can register as he has nsw education email from his school. How much discount do they usually get?

        • Up to 47%, I believe. If you have school vouchers for your son, you can also look into officeworks or jbhifi to buy a new laptop.

          • @cngu0803: That's great and hope they do have some laptops in stock. I have spent school vouchers on kids' shoes already. Thanks

My expectation is have 16gm ram, 12gen i5 or i7 which are the two mains things I consider.

@HappyBargainer: Definitely take a look at the ThinkPad E14 Gen 4 with specs:

              • 12th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-1235U Processor (E-cores up to 3.30 GHz P-cores up to 4.40 GHz)
              • Integrated Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics
              • 16 GB DDR4-3200MHz - (8 GB SODIMM + 8 GB Soldered)
              • 512 GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 TLC Opal
              • 14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 45%NTSC, 300 nits, 60Hz, LED Backlight, Narrow Bezel

              $1099 incl shipping & GST.

              • @cngu0803: I believe your spec is almost the same as the Dell laptop which I posted previously. It's definitely the spec I am looking for. I think that you are referring to this one:

                https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpade/thinkpad-e14-gen-4-(14-inch-intel)/21e3000kau?orgRef=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F

I will ask my son to sign with the edu lenovo. Hope the price could be even better. What is your view with your pick vs this dell laptop:

                https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-16-lap…

                or

                https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-15-lap…

These Dell laptops are 15 and 16 inch and yours is 14 inch. I don't have any preference to screen size as long as it's all comfortable to read for kids on the screen.

                • @HappyBargainer: Its up to you. I can comment about lenovo as I just recently bought the Lenovo slim 7i and its quite nice. Good screen & build quality.

                  • @cngu0803: How is battery life as kids are generally don't charge the battery in the school.
