Recommendation for Hybrid Speaker for TV and Turntable (if It Exists)

Hi there,

I have an entry level turntable (Audio-Technica) https://www.audio-technica.com/en-au/at-lp60xusb and a Samsung smart TV and was hoping to be able to use the same speaker/s for both of them at a neat OzBargain budget (is sub $200 realistic?). Not being an audiophile snob, I would be easily satisfied - the aim is for a bit more volume for the TV and a solid sound for the turntable - not pumping doof or trying to trigger the neighbours so modest is fine. It has an RCA and a USB connection but I'd be hoping for something that can also run bluetooth to the TV. I realise this is not an audiophile website but someone may just have the right suggestion that meets the sweet spot between budget and acceptable sound quality.

Thanks in advance OzBs

  • Just get a 5.1 sound system from market place, ie yamaha, which probably able to support tv and your turntable.

If you not after doof, smart tv inbuilt sound is sufficient, unless you are upgrading it to a sound bar, which probably cost way more than $200.
In this case, get a sony or jbl smart speaker, these usually connect via Bluetooth.

Something like this would do a good job. Can have both turntable ant TV connected. Miles better than a soundbar.

  • Thanks for both those ideas.

I use a pair of Edifier S2000MKIII for this very purpose. It’s connected to the TV via optical, and also connects to my Sony bluetooth turntable via.. bluetooth. The sound quality is better than a soundbar that I’d otherwise pay at least double the price for.

However, there is a downside to the approach (versus a soundbar): the speakers don’t support HDMI (and therefore don’t have ARC support), so you won’t be able to control the speaker volume with your TV remote. You’ll instead need to use the speaker’s remote for speaker volume and your TV remote for all other TV functions.

This is fine in my case because I only turn the speakers on for watching movies or (sometimes) gaming. For everything else, I use the TV speakers.
