I'm looking for a screen time control app for both iOS and android that would assist me and the kids managing their screen time.
Ideally the app would allow full access to the tablets for a cumulative 1-2 hours per day, before locking the devices. The devices would also be locked early morning. / night time.
Do you recommend an app? I'm ok to pay.
Because I want to empower them to choose when they want to use their screen time.
But it’s clearly not working if you have to limit their screen time..
The idea is they can use a bit in the morning and a bit in the afternoon, or all in the afternoon, etc. OP doesn't want to be standing over them with a stopwatch, recording how long they've been using it.
I just used the Google Family Link app - I've read Apple has a better one for it's devices- not sure what it's called.
If you have Apple iPhones or iPads, the inbuilt screen time settings will support this (and also allow you to specify limits for particular apps or groups of apps). Parent controls allow you to set and monitor kids usage from your device.
If you can get an app that will allow them to bank up their screen time I think that will be better - otherwise they may feel like they need to use their device every day even if they don't really feel like it because they would be losing that time if they let it expire.
Also try not to use your phone too much in front of them otherwise you'll just look like a hypocrite

Look for a kids launcher on Android I'd say.
I use Samsung kids on my Samsung tablet
Why don’t you just physically monitor them, and then take it away from them?
