Three Aussie Farmers Pork Knuckle $10.99 Per kg @ ALDI

460

Think it's been a couple of years since Aldi stocked these great pork knuckles, bit of inflation as they were $8.99 a kg but still great value imo for the quality of them.

How is the best way to cook these?

    • +1

in the oven, follow the instructions on the box, I have had these in the past and they are pretty good,

    • +2

      Airfryer if you have one

      • +11

        Yep an oven, same same.

    • +2

Airfryer, 200 degrees, rotate all over. Then 10 mins lots of 220/230 degrees for the skin. I rub mine with rock salt after cleaning off the jelly and stabbing it all over with a fork

    • Air fryer. Its idiot proof.

      • +3

You haven’t seen my cooking. 👨‍🍳

        • You'll do alright with this

      • Life has taught me the sooner one says this a bigger idiot comes into the fold.

Put them in the sink and pour a full boiling kettle of water over them, then paper towel dry. Rub in oil and then salt.
Cook at 170c in baking tin with wire rack with water under the rack. When internal temp is 60c ramp up oven to 250c
And watch skin bubble, about 20mins

    • microwave on high for 15 mins then boil until tender

  • Better than a moose knuckle

  • +6

Could you sous vide it then airfry or into a real hot oven?

    • +6

I wonder what f***knuckle downvoted this? Im assuming it was a pretty honest question. I dont think Sous Vide is necessary, oven/airfryer will work just fine. These are pre cooked if they are anything like the coles/woolworths ones and just need heating through and crisping up the skin.

      • +3

Thanks. Didn't realise they were pre-cooked

        • +3

They are pre-cooked in the vacuum sealed bag, by putting them in warm water for a few hours…

So you don't really need to sous vide them.

      • +4

        That's very agressive bro

        • +6

Not really. Why downvote someone who asks a simple question and not even answer it for them. I find that rude.

          • +2

@DanielP2: Lol I agree but the (profanity) part was a bit ott. Anyway thanks for the downvote

            • +3

@Slippery Fish: That wasnt me who downvoted you. And i just wanted to use the word f@&%knuckle, i even censored it so i wouldn't offend.
              Edit:Up voted for proof :)

              • +3

@DanielP2: Haha fair enough, you have not been at all how I read the comment so my apology sir.

    Eisbein mit sauerkraut! Mmmmm…

    Danke OP!

  • They were pretty good.

  • Anyone have any good recipes?

  • +1

Are they raw or cooked? Knuckle in woli and Costco are cooked.

  • I thought they were raw, took me a good hour to cook

    • Na they come pre cured, they advertise that they have been slow cooked for hours

  • Are these as good as the Coles ones? Is it the same company that makes them?

    • +1

These (same as at Costco) are cured ham type knuckles. The Coles ones are more normal roast pork

      • +1

Thank you. I don't like the cured ham style knuckle and will stick to the Coles one.

    • They are better than the Coles branded ones. These used to be stocked at woolworths, used to be able to get them on some great markdown specials but then the popularity went up and they were hard to even get. Naturally Woolworths being the greedy buggers they are used Three Aussie Farmers to test the market and then brought out their own branded ones undercutting Three Aussie Farmers and also stopped stocking them.

  • I’m a little wary of buying meat from Aldi. Bought some (beef) sirloin steaks and found them unbelievably tough/chewy. Was I simply unlucky?

    • +1

This isn't really Aldi meat, it's not a regular stocked item and is just a special buy for a week

      • -1

No, practically all meat from ALDI became not eatable. We stopped to buying from them and Woolworth as well. No more quality meat from them recently. Only seniors animals used, unbelievably tough/chewy meat.

        • If you believe this to be bad then by all means don't purchase it, but having purchased these exact ones before from Woolworths and Aldi they are the best quality pork knuckle from the major supermarkets.

          • @donkcat: Didn't try everything from aldi, but most of meat I always purchased before becam not eatable.
Thanks for advice to stop purchasing it, i didn’t know what I should do then.

            • @simb24: This Pork Knuckle has no affiliation with Aldi other than they are selling it as a special buy for a week, you know how Aldi meats normally have the Aldi trademark on the back that state they are packed for Aldi, well these don't have it.
More broadly I agree Woolworths meat isn't great, Aldi chicken has too much moisture in pack. So I normally get meat form Coles.

              • @donkcat: I'm have nothing against Pork Knuckle from Aldi, didn't try yet it. From Costco it was quite good.
Agreed that some Coles stuff really good and sometimes cheaper than Aldi's.
Unfortunately around my place no Coles store is in good distance.

        • Really interesting how recent was this, I've had pretty good run with ALDI meat in the past

          • @CrazySurfaNZ: Last week bought buffalo chicken wings, looks as this chicken was 50 years old.

    • In my opinion, the chicken is worse, it always smells even when it ages before the use-by date.

  • Yum. Pork Knuckle, also known as Pork Hock and Pata. 🐖

Woulda even a better product if the trotter were left attached.

  • Guess I’m buying some pork knuckles today

  • Not free range, so it's a hard pass from me.

  • schweinhaxe!
