I sure do. My backup is a small pot on the stove.
rookie mistake turning on a kettle with no water, it was probably a child or someone of low intel
rookie mistake turning on a kettle with no water
Isn't kettle should have some kind of protection?
Empty kettle, switched on by something falling on the switch and holding it on (can't remember what, it slipped off the draining board). Element overheated. Shame really, it was a nice looking kettle.
Kettle 1.7L
That's odd…
1.70L, fixed :)
Has anyone used this kettle as a non-backup kettle?
Probably just louder, kettles all work the same way.
Not recommended, particularly if you have children. The steel conducts heat much better than a plastic kettle, which means burns happen much more easily.
Even as a backup kettle, I'd buy a $7.50 plastic kettle from BigW in preference to this one.
The risk of burns is slightly greater, but if kids and kettles are a risk for people then it's best to ensure that the kettle is completely out of reach. Our kids are well past the stage where it's a risk, but we still put the kettle at the back of the worktop where kids wouldn't be able to reach without standing on a chair or similar and also doing that at a time when water is boiling/boiled. If you're boiling a kettle, keep an eye on kids, whether they're your own or visiting.
The risk of burns is slightly greater
I disagree with you there. I can put my hand on my plastic kettle just as it boils, and my reflexes kick in and pull my hand away before I have a burn. With a metal kettle, the burn happens much much faster, you're much more likely to have a burn before your reflexes save you.
Note that I'm talking about burns from touching the outside of the kettle, not scalds from the water. And "kids" includes teenagers, who can make their own cups of coffee, but teenagers are less careful/cautious than adults, and more likely to injure themselves.
@Russ: Reflexes are really good at reacting to dangerous stimuli. Touch a kettle (metal or plastic), your body goes "hot, don't touch" and will remove your hand from the kettle. Out of curiosity, I just checked when making myself a cup a tea. I had to force myself not to remove my hand instantly as the temperature is sensed rapidly, but even after half a second of obviously too hot contact there had not been enough thermal energy transferred to cause a burn. Sure, someone could grasp on to a boiling kettle for several seconds and be burned, but they'd have to be seriously stupid rather than just my level of "scientifically curious" stupidity.
But plastic and hot water. Won't it leech into what you drink?
But plastic and hot water.
I did have a plastic one before, after years water have plastic smell
@superforever: Yeh, despite plastic kettles that says its safe and BPA free, there is a plastic taste/smell after X amount of usage.
Would go glass or stainless steel. Unfortunately, there are still small amount of plastic even with glass or steel but at least no plastic taste or smell
What about plastic leachate in the boiled water? Better off with metal
Didn't you see the reports of lead in metal taps a few years ago? Metal is not guaranteed to be safer: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gizmodo.com.au/2017/07/what…
The stainless steel could be made from recycled metal, and could contain all sorts of alloying elements. And some non-recycled stainless steels contain significant quantities of selenium.
Kettle is a simple appliance, arguably a good thing to buy cheap kettles and then refresh every couple of years, though not so much for the environment.
Why should you do that? Genuine question.
because phones, PCs and other stuff works the same! :D
Sounds like "browser" sells kettles. Gerry, is that you?
Didn't mean to throw them out regardless, if working fine then by all means continue to use it.
The perception was cheap kettles doesn't last, so what I meant was even if it only lasts a couple years, it's still economical to get a new one that is more aesthetically pleasing (free of scratches, stains, etc).
Yep got it. Thanks!
Can't speak for this one, but I've found the Big W Contempo Kettle to be a reliable little performer for ~$20. Wouldn't waste money on a brand name kettle ever again.
I love the Big W Contempo mid size microwave oven - only $99 but its a champion!!! Great products it would seem. I had a LG and it was garbage, lasted only two years
I too have the Contempo Microwave. Such great value for money. Looks great and does its job perfectly.
Reliable good looking kettle. I have had one and I bought another one for the new look. I am planning to get a glass one now so I can take the second one at home to work. What I mean is that still working no issues :)
Nice choice, in for 1.
the only problem with these kettle:
are they using food grade stainless steel?
BPA free
.are they using food grade stainless steel?
How about all your cooking appliances?
yes for those stainless steel one
I don't get why people NEG it when it is a valid concern
who knows what sort of stainless steel they use in cheap kettle? maybe recycle?
Didnt find any in Parramatta, they only sell minstral. is this state specific?
Check the stock level in the link. I tried parramatta and it says out of stock. In stock in surrounding area
For the price the likes of Breville sell their kettles for, they must have a huge mark-up.
Just bought the last one from my local but online still said in stock
I bought one of these as a travel one, but have used it as a replacement for my Breville at home. It has now lasted longer than the Breville (which has been replaced 2 times previously).
I’ve got a Breville kettle that’s still going strong after 10+ years.
I'm normally quite fond of Breville's products, but this particular one has given me a bit of a headache. It's meant to be one of the better ones too.
I got a pretty basic Breville kettle. It’s stainless steel with a mechanical on/off switch. It’s the BKE420. RRP was $60 but I bought it off eBay for $43 back in 2012.
My Kambrook still work just one of the cover slingshot broken.
whilst I do care what material my kettle is made from, I care a lot more for a quieter kettle. I'll assume for the price this has the latest in noise technology? aka loud af…
When do Aldi sell the delonghi? Looks fine. Tiny screw securing my morphy Richards vanished and can’t find any spares online - very annoying, kettle works perfectly but those ring pulls are a terrible design
Great gift for Valentines day… Girls really love small appliances as Valentines day gifts :)
I usually buy her a new iron
Can't beat the romance of giving a power tool which you really wanted for yourself.
Adesso means 'now' in Italian. The more you know :)
Italian name made in China XD
Thought I needed a spare. Now I got two spares.
Spare for the spare.
Adesso? What brand is that? Is that a store brand thing?
Yeah, store brand.
Looks like the deal is back on - the kettle is going for $13.50 again.
If stock still available
Thank you for prompting me to replace my backup kettle. My main kettle died thanks to someone switching it on when it was empty and the backup was pressed into service. Every sane person should have a backup kettle at the ready!
