It’s both movies
Oh , slightly better than.
Hardly worth it…
better than what?
The new one was such a rubbish movie. Was very disappointed.
Top Gun Maverick Blu-ray+4K is currently $25.99!

I paid $17.99 at JB Hifi for the Blu-ray + 4K, back with JB perks.
Excuse my ignorance but what’s the difference between a CD like this and just streaming it in 4K?
Uncompressed Audio
And (much) higher bitrate - 4K streaming bitrates are closer to normal 1080p Blu-ray Disc.
higher *bitrate (smoother)
Also some people like to own a physical copy so they can watch it even whenever they want, whereas a streaming service can remove it from their platform.
This!
Or censor it in the future for “modern audiences”.
i hate that taking the illegal method (torrenting) gives you a better consumer experience than paying for the official way. such a perverse incentive
I remember back in the day I bought Charlie Wilson's War on DVD. Great movie, but every time you put the disc in you had to sit through this infomercial with Angelina Jolie crapping on about AIDS in Africa before it would show the menu and allow you to start the movie. Every. Damn. Time. And you couldn't skip it, you had to sit through it. I just kind of sat there thinking "if I'd pirated this I wouldn't have to put up with this crap just to watch my own damn movie".
Bitrate
Physical copy is always better :)) Most people won't notice the difference between streaming or physical - but the true audiophiles and videophiles will notice the better audio and video quality
pedophiles too
Streaming is only dependant on your internet speed and, in most cases, you don't get true 4k resolution all the time.
Pair this with the fact that not all streaming services offer Atmos capability.
If you just want to casually watch a movie then streaming is fine. If you want the full blown large screen, theatre sound, then 4K disk is the way to go.
I'm pretty sure although 4k streamed is 4k, it is compressed a lot. So in 4k in Netflix might be around 7GB/hr - a 4K UHD disc is minimum 50GB in size and up to 100GB - so a lot less compressed.
Also the discs have Atmos support. Not sure if streaming also does
It can, at lower rates, and not uncompressed .
With proper Atomos setup, the right screen and the right player, you very likely will see & hear quite a bit of difference. However, not a day / night variation for most of the people unless you're an enthusiast. Just my 2 cents :)
This is generally considered the best mastered UHD disc to date for both audio and video. It is a sight, and sound, to behold. With a half-decent system the difference between the disc and streaming is clear.
Physical media is not the way.
Plex is the way.
Disagree for multiple reasons.
4K remux life
This is the way.
Every time a deal about physical media is posted, these responses show up.
Imagine if every time a garden-related deal came up people said something like:
"Gardens are not the way
Renting high rise apartments is the way"
Its typical response from woke gen. Sadly there will be more of them in future.
You do understand that a Blu-ray remux is identical to a physical disc, so it is comparing apples to apples.
@PainToad: You do understand that a physical copy is tangible and works with pre-existing Blu-ray players without the need to create accounts and download additional content and/or software in order to enjoy a film, so it's comparing apples to a JPEG of apples
@Faro: JPEG is lossy. A remux is lossless. Your analogy is wrong.
@PainToad: Sorry, I don't eat blu ray discs, so your analogy is wrong 🤷🏻♂️
@Faro: I was comparing apples to apples, two identical fruits, to make my point a remux and the contents of a Blu-ray are the same.
Do you even know what an analogy is?
@PainToad: Are you now trying to prove that you know what an analogy is to sidestep the arguments as to why a disc is still different enough to a digital copy?
Please, PainToad. Consider logging off. Trying to win arguments and hating on things this often cannot be doing you any mental health favours.
@Faro: 🤦 the contents of the disc is digital. A remux is a copy of those digital files. The files are completely identical stored in different mediums. Clear enough?
@PainToad: Gee golly, You sure proved me wrong. Hope you're happy now and can go do something else
@PainToad: One burger is on a plate in front of you, ready to eat.
The other burger is trapped at the end of the Battletoads Turbo Tunnel, and you have to explain the specific button sequence to your significant other over the phone for the nth time.
Even if they are the same burger, they won't be enjoyed equally.
@PainToad: Sorry, how can you get remux without having a physical disc on hand. Please advise. Thank you.
Plex this plex that. Most people on OzB don't know what Plex even is.
Maverick is great movie, would have love to see more dog fights at the end.
Wait… so you mean there were some dogs in the movie ?
A dogfight, or dog fight, is an aerial battle between fighter aircraft conducted at close range.
Would be good if it had the 3-D version.
Who still has a 3d tv. And even if you do, most of those pairs of glasses would have been lost by now.
I do :-) Its a curved LG Oled from 2016. Actually, we still have 2 old Panasonic Plasma's from 2012 or so that can 3-D
So I probably have all the 3-D TV's in this thread :-)
To be fair though… I didnt buy them for their 3-D capabilities. They just happened to do it as well.
PQ was the reason I got them. I still have a Pioneer Plasma from 2008 as well.
No, we've still got ours as well. I refused to part with it, and now it now lives in the spare room.
We are using our Panasonic 3D plasma in our bedroom, and I still have the two 3D glasses that came with it.
I feel the need….the need for it to go further down in price.
Was a sick movie but this price ain't it. Paying more than $15 for a 4k movie is crazy. They all drop in price
There’s 2 movies.
When 4K was first released, they were over $50 !
B1G1F is coming soon. Wait
May, isn't it?
Often, maybe end of this month ?
Anyone got suggestions for good Blu-Ray player? I got excited and bought bunch of 4K Blu-Ray discs for my new theatre room to test my projector/sound system only to find out xbox one s sucks balls at playing blu-ray stuff.
You need more than a BluRay player, you need a UHD Player. BluRay doesn't play 4K.
Learn something every day.
So basic Bluray is just 1080P?
Sounds right, UHD is 2160P
Copy CD onto USB and play on 4K TV
Panasonic UB820
I got my UHD player from Grays Online for pretty cheap.
Panasonic UB820 is pretty well regarded.
? I use one happily
Why does the xbox one s suck at playing blu-ray? Just curious since I use an xbox too.
No Dolby Vision support.
Is that even a big thing? Most of these 4k discs use HDR10 and dont support Vision. And even when they do, you dont benefit if you're watching on a Samsung tv. Just dont see the point of a separate player when an ps5/xbox can do it already.
@Fuzor: A PS5 doesn't have Atmos, it uses it's own variance, not official Dolby.
@Rockgod70: I'm not going to pretend to have auditioned an atmos setup, but conceptually it seems like someone invented a problem just to solve it.
@justtoreply: Atmos is an industry standard that the Studios have put time into utilising. To then palm it off to some non-official attempt seems like a wasted opportunity.
It has been a mystery why Sony just didn't incorporate Atmos from the start and really advertise their console as a full blown media centre.
@justtoreply: Atmos when done well in the source and with the HT setup implemented correctly is fantastic.
@Rockgod70: PS5 can do Atmos froom a disc, it has to be set up to pass through to the reciever.
@deafberri: Unless they changed it since launch as Sony were quite adamant that 4k disks would not be Atmos capable through PS5.
This almost tipped me toward XBox, but i held on and just bought a UHD player instead.
@Rockgod70: I am not sure what the status was at launch, but I have been watching 4k UHD discs on PS5 with Atmos passing through. No DV though thats for sure
@Fuzor: I agree. Dolby sounds like a company desperate to stay relevant.
@Fuzor: Dolby Vision is becoming increasingly popular, in fact Sony have been re-releasing a lot of their early 4K discs with Dolby Vision support.
PS5 does support DV with a compatible Sony TV, but don’t know why they and MS don’t support it across the board - licensing costs is my guess. Samsung supporting HDR10+ rather than DV seem sillier to me.
@Randolph Duke: I can get DV on my Sony OLED and PS5.
I find DV to be better than HDR10+
PS5 ?
TMT
TMT?
This movie delivered. Tom Cruise outdid himself.
Technically it was just the original movie mixed with Return of the Jedi.
Who would you say was the Wicket equivalent? Bob?
Haha..pretty much! Bob is probably the son of the person who played Wicket.
Also, slight plot hole… they could have just sent the Tomahawks direct to the target (the Death Star) instead of just the air strip, but that wouldnt make an interesting movie.
Even though is was a blatant copy..still the best movie we have had in ages…
@tunzafun001: I am pretty sure SAMs (Surface to Air Missiles) are capable of taking down Tomahawks. Also if not SAMs there are anti-air missile measures in today's world that 100% guarded the place and possibly whole reason why they didnt use new stealth F35s.
The 'Honest Trailer' (on Youtube) for this movie is hilarious and points that out. It's a funny trailer.
You say that as if it's a bad thing
Only the action and flying scenes were good. The "love story" and other scenes were forgettable.
Maverick: use the force Rooster…use the force 😅
Hopefully there will be a Days of Thunder II
Watch sweaty men play volleyball in glorious 4K resolution.
Against 5th generation fighters???
I feel the need
The need for speed
(And the potential to buy the double pack even though I own both separately… gotta help Tom Cruise keep living!).
Is this really a deal? Who pays $60 retail for one 4k Blu ray movie?
