They are the go to for DJs. Amazing sound quality. Technics has nothing on them. They just look better but quality doesnt come close. AT has no analog to digital lag hence why DJs go to

        • You should be using the Sennheiser HD25 Light v2, not ATH-M50X or M40X.

But for home mixing when you need headphones, there's many, many, many, many options that are better.

Technics was the elite line of products from Panasonic. Basically, the Lexus made by Toyota. They were one of the few brands to produce Class AA equipment with absolutely minimal THD. Nowadays, people don't even know what THD means. The Technics brand was subsequently limited to just DJ equipment unfortunately.

    • I was so excited when I bought my one and only Technics product, a portable CD player. Just searched eBay and someone is asking more than I paid for it new.

    • THD = "Total harmonic distortion" ???

Yes - it is something that used to be mentioned for any HiFi system front-and-centre as a key characteristic of how good it was. Technical AA components had very minimal THD. No comparison to receivers sold nowadays.

  • Is this any better than the Sony XM4?

    • Depends on what features you value the most - most reviews say that Sony noise-cancelling is the best, audio quality is similar but with Technics being slightly better, and the Technics mics are significantly better if you plan to use as a headset on a regular basis.

Disclosure: I own these Technics and think they're great but haven't tried the XM4s or 5s.
