Power Bank Suggestions?

Hi

I'm travelling for a few months and will be in remote areas. Will need a travel bank to use, can anyone recommend a lightweight high mah product? (Need to be contious of weight as I am already stretched in weight!)

I've seen the Telstra store has the Cignet 3 power bank 20000mah. I really only want to charge 2 smart phones and a laptop. It's heavy though at almost half a kg or is this overkill? I will be on multi day hikes with little access to a powerpoint.

Thanks

So you want to charge a laptop? assuming it has usb-c you would likely need at least 60W. I can't seem to find a listing for the one you mentioned so can't check.

I'd recommend the baseus 20000mah. It's close to $100 and has a weird shape.

    • Thank you baldy, would your recommendation change if it were just phones?

How essential is a laptop on multi day hikes?

  • You can get a 50k mAh or more but really, ditch the laptop and use a tablet or just get a light BT keyboard if you need to type a heap of shit.

Also, solar battery banks exist, probably a good option for your usage.

They are a bad option, the solar panels on these power banks are nearly useless and charge so slowly. It would take days to fully charge the power bank using the built in solar panel.

  • Yeah laptop not essential i guess

  • Highly recommend Anker products. Generally Amazon is cheapest.

    Also - ditch the laptop.

I recommend the Mi Powerbank 3 Pro 20000mAh. Has 45W USB PD charging which is good for laptops. Also fast charges at 45W. Weighs 430 grams.
With limited access to power points I would suggest having a fast charge power bank, otherwise you will be stuck at the outlet for 4-5 hours waiting for your power bank to charge.

I also suggest you leave behind the laptop and consider setting up Remote Desktop (or similar) on your phone so you can save weight and extend the life of your power bank while maintaining access to essential PC apps.

    • Thanks Andrew, great idea on remote access

    • Dont suppose you know of a 10000mah with 30w output?

This meets your requirements, but not sure of the quality as I haven't used it. I would still recommend the 20000mah as I don't think 10000mah will be enough for you.

        • I'm going to forego the laptop so would just be charging 2 smartphones.

          • @txb: 10,000 will really only do both phones once over, is that enough?

  • Are there any lightweight 30W output power banks?

  • You could take a look at the Nitecore NB20000/CARBO 20000. I’ve been eyeing them for a while since they have the smallest volumes/weights out of all 20k mAh power banks I’ve seen that also support 45W PD (for the NB version). Problem is they’re quite expensive at $150-$200.
