Stand up Paddle Board $129 (Originally $199) Delivered ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Kmart

670

Can’t attest to the quality, but got one for myself because I wanted to try it out.

Marked as a clearance item. Price has been reduced a few times, it only went down to this price this week, and noticed a number of stores have now sold out - I bought it online with free delivery.

UPDATE: seems my delivery order has been cancelled - that suggests that they are out of delivery stock.

    kmart sells everything nowadays

    • +2

Basically all garbage quality too , I went through one before Christmas looking for some toys for my nephew and everything was so terribly cheaply made I don't see the appeal.

      • +4

Don't think toys are much of a appeal nowadays with kids . Everyone's glued to phone or iPad

      • +6

I know right, not like back in the day when Geppetto would carve out real toys for real boys and girls

        • I remember that documentary.

      • +6

It really depends on what product - I've bought many housewares and electronics from them and had zero issues with the quality.

      • Got half decent intro SUP board from Kmart about 3 years ago. Zray e10. Still going strong. Definitely not garbage. Also have a few Kmart brand electrical goods and homeware products. Reasonable quality for the price.

      • +2

Long gone are the days of 'more you pay - better the quality'
With planned obsolescence, the life of the product is limited regardless.

Plus, most products are designed to serve it's purpose until warranty ends, after that, they WANT you to buy it again.

  • +4

Hmmmm, do I trust a Kmart item to not sink into Bull Shark infested waters? Probably not.

    • +4

Which SUP will you use in bull shark infested water?

      • +17

        60 foot Sunseeker..

      • +1

Fibreglass, not as easy to bite through

        • +4

Yeah they dont have to sink the SUP. They just have to tip the rider into the water and one could end up shark food. Or a human chew toy. Depends on the shark.

  • +6

    What's SUP

    • +2

Its when you imbibe fluid from a goonbag

      • +3

Whilst tis hanging from a hills hoist.

    • +10

      Short for SUPDOG

      • +3

        Something smells like updog

    • Nothin' much

  • +6

Is it viable to sit down on these and paddle them like a kayak? I've never understood the attraction of standing. It makes me feel like a toolbox.

    • Can't see why not. All up to you.

    • +4

You can kneel. Standing up is a good full body exercise though.

      • Especially if you bring some weights, or a yoga mat

    • +3

Yes, though you might want a paddle with two scoops. Some of them even come with a detachable backrest for this purpose

    • +8

Or buy a kayak if want you really want is a kayak and not a paddle board. These things are pretty wide and I imagine a lot harder to paddle like a kayak than a kayak would be.

      • +2

An inflatable SUP is much better than an inflatable kayak. Much less surface area above the waterline to act as a sail.

An inflatable SUP can easily be converted to a sit down paddle board. Just strap on a milk crate behind the middle handle and sit down. Adjust the SUP paddle to it's shortest length and then paddle. You'll get the hang of the J stroke pretty soon and be paddling straight in no time. No need for a double blade kayak paddle.

        • +3

The milk crate is for beer, I assume.

      • +1

        300 long, 80 wide. A basic sit-on-top kayak is around 280 x 75. Almost the same

I seen a pair of SUPs paddle 5km up lower lane cove river. It was keeping up with us on plastic kayaks pretty well. The paddling position is a bit tricky, not sure how comfortable that is. My main concern is that being inflatables, it feels rather risky given very sharp oysters are everywhere. My plastic kayak has taken some pretty serious gashes from oysters as it is.

    • +2

I'm a kayaker, never understood the allure of these, tried once about 6 or 7 years ago for a little bit, meh - but this summer while on holidays I had a go and got hooked. Very different from a kayak - take them different places and for different lengths of time to do different things. If you want to sit down then stick with your kayak.

      • I reckon get both. Different types of thrills for different moods.

    • +2

You get a better vantage point when standing and can see more underneath you I've found as well

    • +6

For $10 more they've got one with a seat if there's stock near you.

      • bummer can't find stock. wonder how much a seat costs?

      • $51 for shipping so $190 all up but still worth it and I ordered one, hope it's not cancelled

      • -1

Note that that is not an inflatable, which while more solid and reliable requires you to be able to transport it around.

        • +2

Are you talking about the one I linked? Says it's inflatable, comes with a pump (and I can see the inflation port in the pic)

          • +1

@bamzero: Yeah you’re right - someone commented elsewhere in the thread about a non-inflatable one and I thought it was that one, my mistake!

      • +1

got the last 1 at my local. thank you

        • It's it any good? At that price, it's worth having one as a spare.

  • sup

      roe roe roe your boat

      • +1

        Gently down the stream.

  • Looks like great exercise, not a big fan of water sport, otherwise would jump on this deal.

    • +1

more exercise inflating the board than actually using

  • +2

    SUP DAWG?

      waaaazzzzzz uuuuupppp

Oh nothing…just checking out Kmart and smokin' some weed.

  • Does Kmart usually fulfil delivery orders from local stores or a warehouse over east?

    I saw this
"TNT Express - Large items - Australia wide
Allied Express - Large items - Australia wide"

I know I'd probably end up with Allied, who I think are probably the worst courier out there (in my past experience). Summer would probably be over by the time I got it.

  • Ordered and accepted.
1 hour later and order is cancelled.

    • +4

      Delivery or C&C?

  • I've stopped shopping at Kmart. It's just all junk.

  • Be careful with these. These aren't a Zray etc which are dual chamber so if there is a hole you still have 50% boyancy.. with these if there is a hole you're swimming 100m back to shore. Don't use these other than in a pool in the backyard.

I also do not know why the manual says do not use an electric pump. There is NO WAY I'm using a stand pump for a sup lol.

    • Probably if you can't check the PSI. Bought a pump at decathlon and pump 12 psi in like 5min. Stops when it reaches it. Best investment ever - or so ^^

      • All 12v pumps you set the PSI:

        https://www.bcf.com.au/p/tahwalhi-watersports-12v-electric-p…

Not quicker than a stand pump maybe save 1 minute but takes all the hard work out. I pair it with an FPV 12v battery for portability which I use on my Hobie kayak for the fish finder.

        • I paid half that price:-)

          • @ShouldIBuyIt: For a 2 stage pump? I paid $110 on special.

            • @[Deactivated]:

The high-pressure mode can inflate up to 20PSI,

Alright my bad, different specs, mine only goes to 15-16PSI

              • @ShouldIBuyIt: Yeah single stage pumps are significantly cheaper.

  • +2

not sure why there's so many comments calling Kmart items junk. it's cheap and quality control isn't always amazing but I think most people have just bought 1 item and was unlucky that it was faulty. that can happen anywhere

    • +4

I mostly buy at Kmart because I found more expensive outlets are just selling junk anyway. I rather pay junk price for junk. Plus other places can be miserable when it comes to returns when their junk implodes.

  • You want to invest in quality SUP or it's gonna be very frustrating.
Wider with higher PSI and more rigid will provide more stability and more enjoyable. Fine if you're only planning to kneel I guess. Or if you're 50kg

    • yeah the manual says only 12psi which seems low for an adult to use without it bending a lot

Mine isn't anything fancy like a star-board or anything, but inflation is to 16-20psi depending on temperature

      • Bought one 12psi from a mate who weight more than me. It's ok-ish when water is flat but was definitely not enjoyable for him anymore.

  • Can anyone recommend a decent brand for a sup either inflatable or not. Something that comes in a kit that includes a paddle that floats and a board that has chambers so if there is a hole or damage we are not sinking.

Just a couple of good brands and I can do the rest.

    • I just got a solid version of the SUP linked below for $190 shipped from Kmart cos SUPs are normally $600-800 based on some phone enquiries. I don't think much can go wrong with SUPs, they seem to be just a piece of foam/polycarb? shaped to be very bouyant. I wouldn't pay a premium for a brand name SUP

        That one is inflatable too.

        • d'oh !!

Zray, Irocker, Red paddle co etc.

All depends what you want in a sup. A good sup is only around $500 these days and will last you years and years.

You'll want a 12v pump though which can be $140 from BCF. Stand pumps are a workout!!! You'll pay $100 for a good stand pump so better off to go electric. With kits 99% of the time the paddles are aluminium not fibre glass or carbon fibre. You can spend $400 on a good paddle but make this investment down the track.

I own a Zray d2 from most kayak stores. They're dual chamber 15PSI and it's a great stable SUP for $550 in a complete kit.

      • Thanks for that! This will serve as a good starting point for my research.

  • You'll get more out of it if you invest in a premium luxury high yield investment sup instead

    • If you let me access to your computer I will also give you a refund. :)

I buy stuff every now and then from Kmart but you have to careful. For example, you can buy popular games sometimes quite cheap like Wingspan, Dixit or Pandemic. I also reckon their black hexagonal rubber dumbells are perfectly good. The problem with buying cheap though is you might write off the whole venture because the item doesn't work. For example, I bought a $50 airfryer from woolies to see what the whole fuss was about and decided they were useless. Then used a mate's high-end airfryer and saw how good they could be and bought a $200 Ozbargain Philips XXL and we use it all the time. With Kmart, we bought one of their boogie boards, to suplement one we got given, and the kmart one didn't last beyond a year. The vinyl started to come off the foam, and for some reason the black ink on the print started to bleed and smear over anything touching the board - might have been sunscreen or insect repellent disolving the ink. Bottom line - I broke it into bits and chucked it in the bin. Meanwhile, the original board, which is apparently name brand, still as good as when we got it 3 years ago. The big risk with cheap kmart stuff is you are just buying landfill in a years time, plus it causes you to fail at your new venture/experiment. With regards to the stand up paddleboard, take a look at the Talwalhi inflatable at BCF, at about $300 which seems a decent unit and is much likelier to have you enjoy the SUP experience.

    • I agree with this sentiment.

    • Nomad, nmd, vs for bodyboards. Most $150ish are pushed out of China for the summer rush. The good ones are made in Thailand or Taiwan and obtain PP stringers, concaves etc ($400-$650)

    • Buy cheap buy twice

  • Clearance at $99.
