  • Tempted to get the 69k. Probably not the best looking of the 5.
Also seiko-5-sports-mens-watch-srpg77k on sale for $189

    • +4

Those new resin case models seem pretty shit and I wouldn't recommend even for this price.

      • Didn't realize they were resin - similar to the omega x swatch ?
Not a fan of the big bezel neither - will give it a miss, thanks, saved me $200 :-)

    • ugly looking watch the 77k, do you have a link for the 69k

  • +1

how do you keep all your auto watches running apart from a auto rotating case? i bought one recently and if i don't wear it for a day or two it just stops, which is concerning because i have another auto coming in the mail soon 😅

    • +4

Some people buy a watch winder but I don't want mine running if I'm not wearing them.

I've got a Citizen Eco-Drive & other quartz that are constantly running if I need to grab something fast.

    • +3

Just set the one you want to wear up in the morning.
I've had one running in a watch winder for a while but feel like I now need to service it because of it

    • +3

I usually just choose one for the week and then just leave the rest until next time I wear them.
I used a winder for a couple of years, but decided it wasn't worth it for the minor benefit when it saved me the hassle of setting the time.

    • +2

I just set it when I select which watch to wear.

And then I keep some quartz or digital watches for days when i cant be bothered

    • +3

      Agree with all the replies.

I find the winding when selecting a piece an enjoyable experience & a bit of a ritual.
It gives me a reason to appreciate each piece.

    • +2

      Ditto what others have said.

I generally don't think a watch winder is a good idea for 24/7 use.
Putting your nicest piece on a display winder might be desirable.
You may also want to put your daily on a winder, for the weekend, if it doesn't have the power reserve to make it through the weekend.

      However, consider the following;
Most cheaper automatics (which includes any and all Seiko 5) won't have the accuracy for a winder to make sense.
You'll want to set them every week or your watch will start to deviate quite a bit from the actual time.

If a watch is not running, it's not creating wear on the movement.
So even if you have a watch with a COSC certified movement, you probably won't want to keep it wound, every day of the year. This should reduce service frequency.

  • 33k and 41k look pretty good

    • +3

They are 39.4mm so would be good if you have a skinny wrist, your username doesn't check out.

    • I’ve got a 41K and a small wrist. I love it.

  • Really struggling with some of the Seiko 5's these days, Seem pretty dull in appearance and I think the likes of Citizen are producing more attractive watches that show up on the Starbuy deals.

    • I feel like Seiko has gone downhill a bit in the last couple of years, unfortunately.

Seiko 5 was relaunched with youth-orientated marketing, but the prices went up, so they aren't the value proposition they used to be compared to the old SNKs.

On the other end of the spectrum, Grand Seiko went through the same thing with price hikes.

      SKXs and SARBs got discontinued.

High-end Prospex models are getting increasingly expensive.

Meanwhile, I think Citizen is becoming more appealing as they expand their automatic watch lineup.

      • The Naruto one looks nicer as a limited edition, but not a big fan of this big bezel. Can't wear it with a suit.

  • +2

Last of Us. Joel wants his treasured watch back.

    • is it the 33k that he wears?

      • The closest matching watch to the game is Lüm-Tec Super Combat B2, that is discontinued now. In the TV show they are using the watch that was produced as merch for the game, was a limited run and is also discontinued.

Any field watch or maybe pilot watch with a black dial and ideally small seconds on a green Zulu strap will look similar.

    • What good is a watch without cake

  • +1

I'm waiting for the SRPH33K to get to this price

  • +2

I can tolerate 13mm thiccness on my 42mm watch, but for a 39mm case I feel like I'd like my watch to be a bit slimmer for the sake of proportions

  • +2

Seems like the concrete dial wasn't very popular, but it really caught my eye in store the other week. Picked one up, thanks.

    • +1

I have a concrete with a rotating bezel and I changed the band to a brushed jubilee. It’s one of my favourites for sure. I love the look of the dial and surprised it isn’t more popular.

      • +1

        Totally.

I remember looking in store and the strap seems to run under the watch itself which made it sit very high up on the wrist. Is this one of the reasons why you changed it?

Anywhere you guys can recommend to pick up decent quality jubilee bracelets for a reasonable price?

        • +1

I wasn’t keen of the nato strap on this watch, however it fit fine and wasn’t too high (for me). I looked around and found some jubilee bands, but they were about $120. I ended up grabbing one from AliExpress for $6 and the quality is genuinely fine. Fit and finish is surprisingly great. I ended up buying three others for a few other of my watches.

    • I do like the dial but I can't get past the scratched case.

  • These 5's used to be like $70 insane how much they are going for now

    • +1

Those were different models with 7s26 auto movement which had no hand winding or hacking.

      • +1

yeah true but I looked them up and they are expensive now too!

        • Even Casio cheapo's with resin lens have gone up heaps. They used to be around $30 - $40 on Amazon AU. Probably cheaper on eBay now.

          • @WatchNerd: Casio beater MRW200 was still $30 just recently on Amazon AU though, which still lines up with the "20USD Casio beater" that it's known for.

            "Probably cheaper on eBay now."

Gotta watch out for the cheapest listings though. I have clicked through a few of those sellers and there is a few negative feedback reporting receiving fakes.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: That one has been $30 + del for a long time, I guess because it's mostly white.

              • @WatchNerd: Yeah true I didn't think of it as just that colour. I guess if all colours were available as options it would be a better example.
I guess since currently 20USD is 28AUD that single colour just passes as $20USD with Prime Free shipping.

Waiting on comments blaming WN for them to go broke.

WatchNerd will act innocent, with his low cost watch deals, but we all know he's handing out the gateway drug.

StarBuy are clearing out the Shit that's left over.

    • Water is wet

      • -1

interesting point - Water isn't wet because it is a liquid that wets things. Once you come into contact with water you become wet. Until then water is liquid and you are dry.
