These are free from the government.

Expon, some details on how these can be got for free would help. Thanks!

They're different devices. The Belkin Conserve Socket is a 'countdown' timer. Hit the button on top and it will turn off at the prescribed interval.

The devices you've listed turn off another device when a master device is turned off - completely different.

        • -1

According to my limited understanding both devices are pretty much the same. They both turn off an idle device after a set time.

        • nah totally different. The Belkin Socket is a timer - you press the button on top and it counts down.

The Embertec device requires another device to control it eg. TV is plugged into one side, and DVD the other. The DVD will turn on and off as the TV does - a master/slave device.

        • I'm in NSW. So, these aren't useful for me. Guess will have to pick the Belkin one's up :(

        • So it's for Victorians only and maybe SA.

So the rest of us might be able to make some use of these belkin models, but 6hrs max is an oversight for overnight use. 8 and/or 12 hrs would have been a better option.

hell this seems highly useful to me .. you have no idea how often I leave the iron on (it's not old but doesn't auto shut off if idle/verticle )

  • power rating?

  • +1

I got a few Embertec switches recently (free), but they've caused some grief. My PC apparently draws too little power when watching a movie, it turns the screen off! The kids crack the sads when it takes randomly 1, 2 or 3 remote presses to turn the TV on.

But something like this would be great for my soldering iron, which I've left on twice recently….so long as I don't have to crawl under the desk to turn it on next day.

Can someone tell me how these behave when you want to re-start your device ? D'oh heree http://www.belkin.com/conserve/user-guide/WEB_F7C009_10MS041… shows you need to get to the reset button to re-enable. Not ao good for me, but well $15, can't go wrong.

What is with the 1.5% fee ? Why not just change the sale price ? No-one wants to pay an extra fee.

I found the best thing with a soldering iron is to connect a lamp to the same powerpoint. So you have a very obvious visual cue that you've left it on. Has saved me countless times (even safety wise as I have a habit of grabbing it by the head to put it away or move it when its off)

  • I added 2 units to my cart & it still charges me $45.57 for 2 units with SAVE15. Is there a trick to BOGOF?

    • +1

it's automatically BOGOF (they have single ones on the site too) - only add one to the cart.

  • Thanks, grabbed one (or two I guess) of these. I'm in WA so no freebies here :(

  • got these annoying things free, I don't know why you'd pay for them.
edit: wait, these aren't the same? well they certainly look the same.

These things are not available for free in some states, i.e NSW etc. I think it is free in VIC & may be SA. You guys are lucky in VIC.

      • Hardly compensation for living that far south :)

      • "these" things are NOT the Embertec devices you're thinking about

  • +2

TOTALLY DIFFERENT DEVICES!!!!! with the (Victorian Only) EmberTec devices, a shifty electrician comes to your house, installs them, makes you sign a document that basically states you hand over any future power saving credits you earn from switching to another elec company. And for the real clincher, he checks out your wiring and says this house is NOT safe, it'll cost $480 to get a safety report, then another $2500 to fix or he is required under law to report you to the local council for having a fire risk.

    • wow… thinking of getting it but have to think twice now

      • why get a stranger to come to your house for the installation?
for christ sake pay the $15 for peace of mind!!

if the VIC government really want to save VICTORIAN energy cost
send it out free, or claim it from Electricity company
not by sending some stranger to your house & waste 1 hour to wait for them for installation!
(including the phone calls, appointment time waiting at home + listen to their craps after installation)

Thanks op, just what i need for our dryer (it has a dodgy timer).

Had to laugh at the delivery info though:
"Delivery Time Frame: In order to bring to you the best prices possible on ‘quality products’ you need to allow a despatch time frame of 7 business days"

Are they implying that the items they sell are not really 'quality products'?

  • This offer is just too good to resist. I just bit the bullet and ordered a pair :)

  • Anybody have these shipped yet? My order status has been stuck at "On Order" since forever.

    • +1

Mine arrived last week, but the order status was only updated this afternoon.

      • Thanks, Chuppa. I'll keep my eyes peeled on the postman ;)

        • Same here, mine's still On Order and not delivered yet. Will call them next week if it still not delivered by then.

  • Received mine yesterday. Yippeee!!!
