Superloop nbn 50/20 Plan, Which Router? Can I Use My GL.inet Beryl GL-MT1300 ?

Moving to an apartment and will probably go with Superloop (I had a good experience a few years ago).

Do I need to buy a new router, or can I use my GL.iNet Beryl travel router? (I'm currently using it as a repeater on a free wifi from a hotel).

Thanks guys

  • Depending on your NBN technology you could potentially.

If you have FTTN or FTTB then you’ll need a modem.
If so just buy a used Telstra smart modem Gen 1 or 2…

    • Agree for FTTN using the Telstra smart modem.

I got a 2nd hand Gen 2 for $15 and it comes with free 4g backup

      • Don't count on the 4g backup working, it's meant for the customer that it was first supplied to and I've found several that no longer work.

        • someone from here said Telstra doesn't disable the 4g sim even if the original customer leaves

          • +1

@Homr: Even if that does happen, don't count on it being usable. A friend had his fttp faulty, after a few days of using the backup it stopped working. They were a current customer. I can't imagine telstra etc letting people use unlimited data, even at 25mbit, without some way of blocking the sim - especially ones that aren't even a customer.

            • @bluejeans: Yes but it's better than nothing. I used mine for 1 day before my FTTN got activated

  • Don’t be hanging out on the backup sim working long term if at all. I’ve come across plenty that have worked but I wouldn’t be hanging onto it using it as my main source of internet.

Buy a SIM card like boost and use that… you’ll get better speeds too…
