I was looking for a new school bag for my kid that would be durable, and also serve him as a hiking day pack for his scouts activities, but not too heavyweight for daily use. This seems to be the perfect combination, with a removable cushioned waist strap, rain cover and hydration-pack compatible. Peter's seem to have all Caribee packs on special at the moment.

  • Ah. 😕 I bought my backpack last week!

32l is pretty large for a school backpack. 20l is probably the max for comfortable school experience. You could get away with using this for a 10-20 day trek in Nepal.

32l is pretty large for a school backpack.

Guess 7 year old Timmy gonna harden up fast yeah?

      🙃

    • Yeah for sure it's on the larger size, as I mentioned we got it to serve multiple purposes not just as a school backpack. My 12yo is about average for his age and is stoked with this. So I don't think it's too large, but maybe not for everyone.

Do kids carry any books to school these days, or just a laptop?

And the weight of a dying world of course.

          32L should do it.

Many kids aren't just taking books, laptop and lunch in their bag - for example if they have sports training the extra room really works for their gear. Another option - BlackWolf Blackburn is $40 + ~$11 postage at the moment - good simple backpack with 3 year warranty. $10 off with WOLFPACK might work for you too :)

Great bag, my eldest boy is on his third year using it at School. After all the abuse, there's only a single 5mm tear in the RH strap where it attaches to the bag's main body. Has been like that since the 2nd year of use at school and boy believes it was from a couple of pranks where others try and pull you down to the ground using the bag. Dbags…

    Pros:
Zippers are still working with ease and not jamming up.
Rain cover is brilliant and still gets comments of what a great feature. Has saved electrical gear dozens of times.
Has stood up to the torture of kids, bag racks and hooks.
Sections allow segregating work or items, good when organising.

    Cons:
The bottom of the bag isn't padded/protected, so have a laptop in any section and drop it to the ground will see some damage done to it.
Sections are divided only by the thinnest of nylon, abnormal shaped items will damage other items when it's packed tighter.
Any A4 piece of paper on its own, in the bag, will be creased up like the dog ate it. Permission letter, Certificate, anything….one of lifes mysteries.

Great bag though, would buy again and again.

That happens in every bag our 4 kids have used :)

lol which is why I bought the kids Dell bags last year, but the eldest still likes this Caribee for some reason. He likes wearing it around the front of his body.

The others like the Dell bag with reflective pattern I think the 17" or 15":

  • Damn, missed this by a bit. EBay showed there was 4 available when the deal was posted so that was probably all they had.

  • My first high-school backpack was Caribee, poor old gal - I wonder where she is now..
