be quiet! Dark Power 12 Pro 1500W Titanium ATX Power Supply $519 + Delivery @ Mwave

60

I was looking at the 1200W model recently which steadily sits at $599 and noticed this 1500W one on sale for "just" $519 at Mwave.

I've had great experience with my previous be quiet! PSU, my Dark Power Pro P9 has been running great since 2011.

Specs and details: https://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/1943
A+ Tier: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

If you have a newer GPU and don't like using the 4xPCIe => 12VHPWR adapter that comes with your GPU, you can also grab their new 12VHPWR cable at https://www.mwave.com.au/product/be-quiet-12vhpwr-pcie-adapt… ($29 + delivery). Umart has it for $25 (https://www.umart.com.au/product/be-quiet-12vhpwr-600w-pcie-…) if you live close to one, but the extra $11 delivery cost made me go with Mwave. Unfortunately it does not come with the PSU.

Free delivery if you're subbed to mVIP.

Unless you absolutely need 1500w i'd be getting something like the Silverstone 1200w for $319 with the new 12VHPWR connector.

    • You're not wrong, and there are more options at i.e. https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/y43cyp/comprehens…

That said, be quiet is 80+ Titanium (Silverstone is Platinum) and the quality of cables (sleeved / braided) and accessories is top notch on the be quiet unit. Silverstone seems very basic (still good, just basic)

That 200 dollar saving is more then enough to get complete custom length cable mods cables for your entire pc or the much cheaper cable extensions.

And the difference between plat and titanium is minimal on your electricity bill.
Over all you are way better off with a newer psu that supports the latest standards with the 12vhpwr connector considering you would have to spend even more with the be quite for the 12vhpwr cable.

        • Or actually spend the $200 on something that actually helps performance…..

Thanks for the tip mate, this is absolutely perfect for my new smaller build as its 3cm shorter than my corsair and comes with all the right cables. Bought one cheers

    • Correct me if I'm wrong but the table says the PSU is rated Platinum? But the manufacturer is claiming Titanium. These are completely different methodologies I assume? 80PLUS doesn't go to "Diamond" while cybenetics does. Sorry, bit out of the loop here.

Also something is wrong with their reporting. If you view the chart it seems like it's pulling data from wrong table columns.

Cybenetics is a new and improved rating system.

Skip to about 4:30 I think.

        • Sweet, thanks.

I'm still having trouble understanding their methodology. The same model running at 115V is rated Titanium but 230V as Platinum by them. Yet looking at detailed PDF docs the 230V model performs a bit more efficiently than the 115V one.

Seems they're using different criteria (and "awards") for 230V certifications which is confusing.

EDIT: Yep they're using different percentages for each rating bracket at given voltage which is weird https://www.cybenetics.com/index.php?option=eta_9-51-40

@drasticmeasures1337: 230V is more efficient "by default" than 115V under load, so it's taking that into account by making the 115V efficiency brackets a smidge lower.

@MHLoppy: Well that's fudging! Americans should suck up some awareness that their voltage isn't as efficient, instead of being molly coddled.

  • 1500W…seriously? Why don't go to 2000 or even higher.

Tell me you don't have a 4090 without telling me you don't have a 4090

      • +3

'Nvidia recommends an 850-watt PSU for its Founder’s Edition (FE) 4090, and many other third-party models recommend the same amount of power for GPUs that have the same clock speed as the FE model.'

Tell me you've never done research without telling me you have never done research.

        • Yeah, it is almost like it was just a joke.

          @scuderiarmani Whoosh lol

        • +1

Iirc the issue with recommended wattage was that transient power draw could go over the limit which was the reason the 80PLUS certifications weren't good enough.

I'd say for a 4090 a 1000W would be a good idea, but not more. I guess I personally just wanted a be quiet PSU lol and just happened to lean towards the pro series and found this one on sale which made getting the 1200W model an even worse financial decision. If it lasts me another 10 years that's a good investment imo and will handle future monster cards too. Manufacturer gives 10 year warranty iirc

          From a random article:

In the worst-case scenario, OC speeds, the maximum GPU peak power is at 683.18W,

683 + ~150W CPU and you're already at 833W without counting any other components.

@drasticmeasures1337: No offence at all to you. It's a great PSU. Love the Bequiet stuff myself.

But yeah 1000w ideally is probably where it's at for a 4090 System.

1500W? That's like constantly running a kettle while you game!

  • +1

1500w you Bitcoin mining with multiple GPUs??

    • +2

hey! i like to drive a wall full of monitors for porn okay!

    • Lol nope, but getting the 1200W model is financially a bad idea if it's more expensive than the 1500W one.

      I'd be good with a 1000W
