    Be careful taking this If you take other conventional medications

    • Why?

      • +1

        Lots of medication interactions for example

        • Well for people who are after these it’s the best price!

          • @Thrifty Dan: Yeah I'm sure it's a good deal for those interested!

            Have never used em myself so can't comment but just a friendly warning to those that shouldn't be taking St John's wort depending on other meds being taken :)

              @Chocobros: a lot of anti-depressants don't mix with it.

                @tugman: If you don’t take any it shouldn’t be a problem…

        "Antidepressants. Taking St. John's wort with antidepressants might increase the risk of the accumulation of high levels of serotonin in your body. Too much serotonin can cause mild to severe side effects. Taking this supplement and an antidepressant requires a doctor's supervision."

        It was a pretty common case study in my degree, as adverse effects range from mood issues, through to psychosis and even suicide.

        Thanks for mentioning this @Chocobros

          I doubt that someone already having antidepressants prescribed would take this

          • @Laziofogna: They aren't, but people think it's an add-on or a natural way to improve their mental health, hence the issue. I never implied it was prescribed.

              @Froot Loops: You know what people "think". Impressive. PS I'll keep playing tennis tomorrow

                @Laziofogna: Might be all jokes to you, but this is a serious issue that few are aware about. I've personal caught the issue around a dozen times in my careers (some pre- and others post). Have a read on serotonin syndrome and you'll see why it's an issue in health care.

      I was taking st john worts for many years for my anxiety, then later asked the doctor for something stronger, he prescribed me with anti depressants, but didnt warn me not to take the john worts, also i didnt check myself as i john worts doesnt need a prescriptions to purchase so i didnt think too much about it.
      I took john worts in the morning to help with my anxiety to see the doctor and took the anti depressant at night. The reaction hit me while i was sleeping. It was so bad that i had to call the ambulance.

      Thank you, I came here to say this. It is a real concern with this stuff. Serotonin syndrome is not much fun.

    Need something a bit stronger in this timeline.

  • Keep it in the first aid kit.

  • Chemist warehouse is selling Thompson brand St John wort 4000mg 60 tablets for $19 currently. Works out to be cheaper per mg

    • Same on Amazon. Any experience with the higher dose?

      • Sorry, I'm not sure. Been a while since I took this.
