Switch gets it for NGP + Expansion and has online play.

    • +17

Finally a game the Switch might be able to run at a solid 60fps.

      • +7

        Are you okay, mate?
You're always really upset about the Switch

        • +7

He’s not wrong. Some games are so janky on the switch.

          • +7

@Snagsandonions: I just blink twice as much while playing and don’t even notice.

        • +3

Love Nintendo. But I feel the Switch is their worst generation. Clearly others disagree from the sales.

      • +1

Isn't this one emulated on Switch? Therefore it actually won't run at 60fps.

        • +1

Lol is it? We all know how good Nintendo are at making N64 emulators too 🤣

          • +1

            @PainToad: I think you're also behind on the news…

The emulator was fixed months and months ago. Games that allowed for variable refresh rates have been upped to 60fps such as pilotwings, though that doesn't say anything in terms of Goldeneye.

            • @Faro: Better doesn’t mean good.

              • +1

@PainToad: Hope your attitude can get better

        • Both systems are emulated.

          • @Elpres: It’s native on Xbox?

          • @Elpres: Isn't it an engine port/remake on the Xbox because it's running at HD/QHD widescreen resolutions with achievements?

  • +2

Hi-fi rush coming to gamepass later today announced in the direct on now

  • Poke him in the goldeneye with the goldfinger

  • +6

It's great to see this finally released after all the delays. I knew it was coming to XGP but I expected it would run on PC too. I'm disappointed.

  • +4

    Will this have local multiplayer?

    • +4

Yes. Xbox version is local only.

  • Great game thanks

  • I was just playing this in emulator on Xbox, dam so confused, it better not have letter box, better have achievements.

  • +2

This is available to anyone that has purchased Rare Replay too.

    • +2
    • +3

Digital version of Rare Replay only.

      • Ah thank you, here I was ready to run out and buy a preowned copy…

    • +2

That's a pretty good move by microsoft - could easily have left it out and not made any mention of it

      • Well it is a Rare game, it belongs in the collection. It's a Nintendo game too, Nintendo paid for it to be made, so it belongs in the Expansion Pass as well.

        • +2

Yeah I totally get that, I just think it's rare (no pun intended) to see a company offer something like this when the alternative would be so easy

  • +1

Now if only the 64 controllers on switch would be restocked

  • +1

omg!!!! golden eye is coming to the N64 service on the switch too!! its going ot be a better experience too if you own the official nintendo online N64 controller made by nintendo

    • +3

Wow…never knew Nintendo made an N64 controller.

      • you have to pay for nintendo online service to be able to buy one.

        • And wait for them to be in stock.

    • Can we use the adapter from smash bros and plug in original wavebirds? If so I’m set.

  • Nice, I’ve been waiting for this for ages!

  • +12

i have 8 friends coming over Saturday night, 4 controllers , Booze and a BBQ, winner stays on
the old days , get to re-live it

    • +5

      Can I come?

    • +9

Licence to kill, Slappers Only, no Oddjob

      • License to kill, pistols, first to 20 is how me and my brother used to do it.

      • A licence to kill who?!?!?!

    • That's awesome! Let us know how it goes. That is if the nostalgia kick wears off quickly and you realise it doesn't hold well.

I would love more remakes (with online play), to relive the the good old days. Like Powerstone 2.

      • +1

Powerstone 2 - Its amazing how many people are unaware of this game and how good it was. I check multiple times a year for a sequel, remake, re release or port and nothing. Its such a shame

        • +1

Yes! Powerstone 2 was excellent. Pity it's not available anymore (officially).

Edit: Apparently it's on PS Vita as part of Power Stone Collection, but digital only. Don't have a Vita though.

    • -1

Why not eight controllers and two xboxes.

  • -1

Nice, I have the Rare Replay disc somewhere. Im not optimistic about this, but it was my best gaming memories of all time (my username might be a sort of hint to that)

    • +3

      interestingly it says

Additionally, players who own a digital copy of Rare Replay,

Not sure why physical wouldn't work

  • +1

Most friends and I have this on N64, I dont expect it to be much better just because the console is newer.

It'll be nice for any younglings who werent gaming in n64 days though :)

    • -6

As much as I can't stand the game, I will say that it'll be much better on the xbox, as you don't have to use the crappy N64 controller.

      • +2

The accuracy of an auto tuning optical joystick, and the perfect 'click' of a nitrile infused membranes didn't do it for you? They're bliss to me. I adore accuracy in gaming.
I also consider it the only controller in '3D game' history to give comfortable thumb access to 6 buttons at once; besides the Sega Saturn.
We must have very different hands is all!

I might place the Gamecube controller above it, but the shorter stick throw, and metal dome membranes on things like the Z button, and the drop back to 4 buttons means they aren't ideal to me.

    • You like the grubby visuals and 5fps slowdowns?

      • +1

I'm a huge nerd; I've had my N64 overclocked since 1999. The slowdowns are either eliminated, or incredibly minor at 125Mhz.

Also using RGB (SCART), so its not muddy at all like composite.

  • Do I still have to buy the N64 Rumble Pack as an optional extra!

    • +1

nope the version 2 of the N64 controller that nintendo released the new wireless on has the rumble pack now built in.

  • +2

"The version of GoldenEye 007 set to appear on Xbox Game Pass is the classic game that made waves in 1997, based on the movie that introduced audiences to a thrilling new era of James Bond."

    It's not the XBLA version?

    • -2

It effectively is the XBLA version, but will have years more development than what was leaked.

      • Hope you're right, 'classic game' version from 1997 sounds like emulated n64 version with higher res rendering.

        • Isn't that basically what all Rare's xbox ports are like on xbox?

          • @AustriaBargain: Folks were hoping for the enhanced XBLA version

          • +2

@AustriaBargain: No. The leaked Goldeneye Eye for Xbox Live Arcade was a new build with redone assets etc. like the Masterchief collection you could toggle back to the old graphics if you wanted.

What we are getting here is just the N64 release with some much less ambitious improvements possibly with the emulator cleaning up some bits.

The leaked Live Arcade version looked much nicer than this one TBH. People with a PC can grab it but and it’s 99% complete.

            • @Smigit: Oh yeah it looks like you're right https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puAU_mdsIbw

            • @Smigit: Was hoping this would be the XBLA release but oh well. I just installed xenia, runs well :)

              • +1

@CountDuckula: Yeah, bummed it’s not the XBLA also. Still, I’ll give it a whirl. Hopefully the filtering etc cleans the image up a bit and the modern controllers get well implemented with dual sticks in particular working well.

Never did unlock the final Aztec level on the N64 back in the day as there was a few 00 Agent times I never beat. Semi tempted to try smash that over.

                • @Smigit: Its a shame most of us as kids didnt understand TV tech; because playing on Component or SCART was a sharp and joyus experience; as sharp as any PC monitor (since scart is using RGB).

But most of us just used the included Component cables, and thought the games weren't clear.

      • +1

        you are absolutey incorrect

  • +1

If you watch the trailer it is just the original N64 graphics emulated in higher resolution.

    • +3

I hope it's not TOO close to the original 🤣 Watching videos of it now is a bit of a shock; it didn't actually look anywhere near as good as it does in all my happy memories of playing this in the 90's.

      • +2

Lower resolution allowed for higher imagination :)

    • If you listened to my nightly prayers for the past 10 years, that is exactly what I wanted. Like he Perfect Dark port which is also now in 4K.

  • Such a shame that it isn't the remastered version. Wonder if modern controllers will be as good as the original n64 one in terms of aiming…

    • I suspect the modern controllers will make the game easier, especially if the aim assists in there also.

      • Maybe, I've never been able to play goldeneye through emulators with a good controller, unless you use the mouse hack

        • I’m not sure but it’s possible they’ll have the N64 control scheme as well as a traditional one. Pretty sure I recall the unreleased XBLA version having both implemented.

          • @Smigit: I'm not talking about the control scheme, i'm just talking about how the n64 sticks were prescise for the aiming back in the day (imo), perfect dark for xbla works well if I can remember so hopefully the same applies for this game. Xbox should be fine, hopefully Nintendo's veersion isn't a rush job and works good with all controllers (but I have the re-released 64 controllers but I don't wanna unbox them :D :D

      • +1

The usual issue is without the C buttons, aiming and strafeing are a frustration. Could be worked around though using L and R to an extent though.

Its why I purchased the Brawler64 pad for my RetroPi.

        • Nice. Wheen I tried to get back into Goldeneye for 64 a few years ago I started moving with the C-buttons and look with stick automatically, awkward at first but better than the default scheme

  • +2

What’s Goldeneye 007? Never heard of it before.

    • You need to travel back in time a little over 20 years ago and it will all become clear.

      • +5

No thanks. Don’t want to relive my youth. I was very short and quite the oddball.

    • User name checks out :)

      • Yeah. I guess the 4 downvoters didn’t understand the reference

  • +4

What time today should we see it on switch and Xbox?

    • live now

  • +1

    NO WAY!!! YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • For those with digital copies of Rare Replay, does each game appear separately to the main 11gb for Rare Replay itself? I can't tell if I should be deleting each of the individual games… eg PD, Banjo Kazooie, etc… (I purchased these separately on my X360 before I got the digital copy of Rare Replay with my Xbox One 8 years ago or so)

    • It’s seperate, as in the rare replay goldeneye would probably be different to a non rare replay version. For example, the seperate Viva Piñata game is completely different to the save file and achievements from the Rare Replay version. It doesn’t transfer over.

    • +1

Yes. They appear twice. Each game (XBOX 360 ones at least) appear under their own name with "Rare Replay" on them as well as the main Rare Replay game. Weird.

  • been playing it for the last hour on my Switch…will check xbox soon.
Not easy on the normal joycons.

    • Sorted with some remapping.

  • Can someone explain to me why this game is so good? I played it when on the N64 years ago, but couldn't get what made it so special?

    • +2

It was revolutionary when it came out, and it was just a fun game to play multiplayer with 3 mates.

    • +1

      First 4 player console shooter.
Hell, first true "pc style" console shooter, really.

Difficulty curve is "perfect". Not boring but not frustrating.

It was rather glitch free, for n64, which we later learned was uncommon.

Supported the rumble pack to feel your weapons.

And lets face it; game based on a movie, that isnt horrible? Thats uncommon as it is!
