  • Good post, what is the main difference beween Chora range and Aria range??

    • Materials used in the drivers. But there are other internal design differences too.

    • +1

Aria range is above Chora range but below Utopia range.
Aria has better construction/aesthetics, materials. Aria also has slightly better sound, but also significantly higher price tag compared to Chora.

      • may i ask what main difference between Focal Chora 826 and Focal Chora 826 D please???
        Cheers

        • +2

826 D has upfiring Atmos speaker at top. You can see it in the product image.
I am not big fan of it. I installed 4 separate non-Focal affordable Atmos speakers in ceiling.
But if ceiling installation is not possible, upfiring speaker is next option.

          • @Sub: is that making huge difference?
I want to put on use as book shelf speaker as I have 55inch tv sized monitor, but apparently near field or close listen does not sounds good…
may be it sounds a bit stupid.
I am using Edifier S3000Pro atm, I am not sure if I should judging by weight or not.
may be should go and listen this arvo, but they are huge to put near desk…

            • +2

@nng526: Yes, in-ceiling Atmos speakers can make huge difference, if you have Atmos content. But as Atmos speakers are used less than other speakers, not a good idea to spend lot of money on them.

              • @Sub: Honestly, I can barely tell the difference with Atmos speakers angled on the top of floor standers.

The idea is that the sound "bounces" from the ceiling and down towards you, but honestly I think it's borderline garbage. I can barely tell the difference at all. It's really not worth it for $600 each or so.

In ceiling Atmos could be worth it, if it's achievable in your house. But I wouldn't do it at the expense of good floor standers and a good centre speaker.

                • +1

                  @b2dz: Yea, agree with you.
some people swear by it, but I don't agree.
That's why I did not buy 826D; bought 826 & used the saved money to get 4 Ceiling speakers of different brand.

                  • @Sub: You mentioned affordable Atmos speakers earlier, what did you land on?

                    • @b2dz: I went with Klipsch CS-16C II 6.5" In-Ceiling 160W Speaker, 550$ for 4 speakers. Serves the purpose.
As an afterthought, I should have gone for ceiling speakers with directional tweeters. But those types are costlier as well, so not complaining much.

                      • @Sub: Just looked them up. Looks good. Did you get an enclosure for them or did you just mount directly onto the drywall (or did you mount to the stud?)

                        • +1

@b2dz: I did not get enclosure, mounted them on drywall directly. They have good lock-in mechanism.
Paid $442 for 4 speakers btw, not 550$

  • I am gonna go tomorrow have listen

  • -4

Dang that site needs a lot of scripts approved to run. Pass.

  • +3

My old 706s are shaking in their timber veneers!

    • +1

      Same šŸ˜‚

  • +3

    What's the point.
The OH is going to scream at me to turn it down. Am sad, will pass until a build a bat cave for myself.

    • +12

If it assists at all, the combo of soundscreen insulation, double layer fyrecheck walls and roof, solid core doors and carpet can be quite effective at stopping sound leakage.

You could build a box of of these materials and stick your OH in it.

      • +1

        Isn't that the dream šŸ¤£šŸ˜

        • Haha yeah. I guess alternatively you could modify a room to have those things.

  • Cracking good deal mate. Thanks for posting. Not a good time for me right now but fsck you made me think. Great deal.

    • +1

So tempted, but such a bad time..

      • +1

        (profanity) interest rates.

  • +1

Worth it? If I'm running an entry level 5.1 in stereo?

    • +1

It's a good deal for their new speakers.

Go listen to them see if you like their sound. Listen to comparably priced speakers and find which sound you like, try get them on a same brand amp that you have too.

But these will be better than your entry level 5.1. does your amp support 7? Get some new fronts and now have more surround, or atmos if there sorted too.

      • I only do stereo these days

    • +1

If you are looking at entry level, check out the Q Accoustic packages instead unless you are wanting to spend focal levels of money. I have the Chora bookshelves and they are plenty good for my space. Good detail, good bass extension, a little on the bright side. So they are also much clearer with dialogue compare with other speakers, so good for movie and tv watching. Sustained music listening I can imagine may be fatiguing for some.

    • +1

If you want to spend less, there are some great deals on Monitor Audio and Q Acoustics (as carlordau mentioned) at the moment. Both good brands.

      Monitor Audio; https://www.spacehifi.com.au/monitor-audio

      • I have Yamaha NS-50 at the moment which have been pretty sweet, but look a bit dated. Amp is an Onkyo bottom of the line job.

  • +1

    Great deal!
I bought a pair of Chora 806 last year when they were 30% off, they sit on my large office desk. Sound is amazing, clean but not bright and surprising amount of bass (although a sub is good).

  • +2

Cracking deal. If I only had the bucks, lol.

  • This might sound odd but i used to have thr Focal KRX2 Splits and 33KX sub in my car and loved the sound over anything I heard

What would be an equivalent home audio pair?

    • Focal Aria K2 šŸ‘ˆ

I had the K2 in my car then upgraded to Utopia 3 way and 332X2 subwoofer, ever since nothing sounded better at home lol

      Now I have 2 x REL T9x, I am getting there šŸ˜‚

      • Your running the a pair of the Aria + 2 of the REL subs?

        • That would be a dream setup :D

I have Focal Chora front and centre. I also have Klipsch Rp-160m fronts. Just very basic HiFi setup. I don't think I would ever go Aria level. Maybe KEF R3 or Buchardt S400 Mk2

  • Would this be a noticeable upgrade to some 716s + 716 center I am running atm? Bought those on gumtree (they are porb 15 years old). Sometimes I wish dialogue in movies was even clearer. Driving them with a Yamaha 5.1 mid range amp. Would buy the center for these too, down to 600 bucks

    • +1

It's difficult to tell without knowing condition of your 716s and how they sound. Best bet would be go to shop & listen.
With respect to you 'dialogue not clear'; does your amp have 'Dialogue enhancer' similar to Denon/Marantz? Use if it's there. Also set the Centre's db bit higher and check if it helps.

  • Could anyone recommend which speaker would be suitable for my office desk?
I already have DAC and Power amp - and my room is quite small (<10m2)

    • +1

I would recommend KEQ Q150 or Q350 for office room setup. I got both Focal and KEF speakers and for long listening e.g playing music in background while working I reckon Focal higher end could be tiring.

      • @Dealsdad Are they "better" than Focal 806 or 906?

  • They have a 100% markup, could be more nowadays. Never pay RRP for Audio or Amps.

  • Anyone have experience running a 4.1 setup? My front left and front right are very close to each other, no room for a centre. Do I lose the centre channel information or will receivers clone it and mix it with front left and front right channels? Because centre channel is usually the channel that dialogue goes over… I can't live without the dialogue in a movie!

    • +2

Short answer is yes. If not using a centre, the receiver will send that info to the front left and right which gives a phantom centre. Just be sure you have the centre channel switched off in your receiver settings.

The biggest problem with not having a centre speaker is that to get the best dialogue/centre effects etc is you really have to be seated centre to you front left and right speakers. Moving left or right from this position makes the sounds shift from the centre to the direction you are sitting off centre. If that makes sense.

      • Yeah i get you. Actually my front left and right are bookshelf speakers but they are sat on their side. Practically speaking, other than the small gap between them, they look like an oversized sound bar. I bought two B&W 602 and two B&W LCR60 yonks ago and only just now are the kids getting old enough that i might test my wife with having a receiver lying around in the lounge (having an item with top vents didn't seem like a good idea due to spills / having something put on top and overheating and then there's the aesthetic factor too). The speakers have been sitting there disconnected.

Not sure whether the LCR60 or 602 will be the fronts.

        • I can feel the kids part in your comment.
My setup is in lounge room. My kid pushed-in the centre channel twitter. :-(
Thankfully I was able to fix it.
Then I went to Spotlight, bought black cloth & sew covers for all speakers. :-)
Lined the front-insides of those covers with hard plastic sheet from bunnings. No more poking the twitter!
Its bit hassle to remove them each time before listening. But its better than the other option of not having any speakers till kids grow up!

          • @Sub: Haha, yeah the threat of them pushing in tweeters. Even as an adult it's tempting!

I had a couple of close calls with that, but thankfully the speakers already have covers and without getting into detail the cabinet itself kind of prevents it (now that I think about it, maybe a 10 minute modification to the cabinet is in the works to make it 100% kid proof)

  • So tempting - been looking at these for a few days. Would this sh*t all over a Jamo s426 setup?

  • Does anyone know how the Focal Chora 806 compare to the Elac Debut Unifi 2.0 UB52s?

    • I would suggest go and listen to both…their sound signature might be different and you might like one over the other immediately.

  • -1

Ermergherd … will it fix my car?

  • These or the Q Acoustics 3050i?

  • +2

I have the Chora 826 pairing with Marantz PM8003, for Stereo listening. I can highly recommend the 826 sounds fantastic.
Came from MA Silver, Wharfedale Diamond 11 (all towers speakers) I really like the 826. Treble is airy and transparent not fatiguing at all. if you have the space and budget go with the 826. Bass is tight and weighty.
They are easy on placement and easy to drive as well. And they are made in France

  • Any thoughts on the Aria 926 vs Kef Q950?

    • In answer to my own question: https://www.hifivision.com/threads/focal-aria-926-%E2%80%93-ā€¦

The 926 look like a winner

    • I like Kefs. But when i heard kef vs focal, kef comes as warm sounding speaker, while focal is detailed, and have good imaging, soundstage. So i went for focal.
Do hear both before buying and then decide.

  • I see Focal, I click "+", simple.

  • I was considering a set of Polk audio R700's

but this sale makes the Chora 826's look attractive

any thoughts on the Polk Audio R700's vs the Focal Chora 826's?

    • Im going through the same discussion in my head but the price difference is too much to justify the R700. A better question is aria over R700.

  • I ordered the Aria 926 and CC900

  • Thanks op. Couldn't resist and got the 826. Good deal
