PSVR2 Game Sharing Idea with Poll

Been thinking if it would be a good idea economically to start sharing PSVR2 games that are only sold digitally when the PSVR2 launches, with others on OzB when they're priced so high on the PS store, currently ranging from $38 all the way up to $110 per title that you'd normally play for less than 10-20 hours. If so, what would be an ideal price to share the game for a week? I'm thinking something like $10/week?

The method of sharing would be the person creating a shareable PS profile and purchasing the PSVR2 game from the PS Store. Then giving out the profile login details to the person who wants to use it for a week. The owner of the profile could buy more games in the future for the profile, expanding the library of PSVR2 games to share, and the "borrower" having a selection of PSVR2 games to play for a week for $10.

Anyway vote whether you'd think something like this could work or not.

Sounds like a good idea in theory but I reckon this is exactly the type of thing Sony would catch on to and ban you for haha

    • ban who? the owner or the person borrowing an account? the owner wouldn't be sharing their main PS profile, and I don't see how they would ban the borrower that's temporarily using another PS profile. There also won't be 100s or 1000s of people doing this, probably less than 50, so could fly under the the Sony radar.

Neither. They would ban the PS account/profile being shared, which would mean losing access to the PSVR games you purchased on that account.

Account sharing is against their TOS and I've definitely heard of accounts being banned for that very reason. The risk of getting banned is tiny/zero if say, you're sharing your account with one other person indefinately - but it's much higher if there's a different person accessing it every week.

        • Is account sharing also banned under Netflix/Youtube/Spotify/Binge/etc current TOS?

@FeZZa21: I suppose, it really just comes down to enforcement.

Also, consider that your risk is higher with your scheme compared to a streaming service. The stakes are higher.

When you're banned from Netflix/Youtube Premium/Spotify: at worst you've lost access to the entire streaming library and whatever portion of the billing cycle you had paid.

When your Playstation account is banned: you lose access to to the entire library of games you had individually purchased, which as you've stated, cost anywhere between $38 and $110 each.

            • @mboy: And the idea is that by the time (if) it's banned, the owner may have already made up for the cost of purchases of said titles. It's the owner that takes that risk, no one else.

              • @FeZZa21: Yeah I agree that the risk will lay with you.
I don't think it's a good idea but by all means, give it a try and let us know how it goes.

        • This ^

    • It doesn't sound like a good idea at all lol

        😂

  • All well and good until a falling out with one or more members of the crew. Or sony implementing crackdowns on sharing ( like Netflix said they would but not sure if they did)

    • It wouldn't be too different from OzB Netflix sharing, how many falling outs were documented with that. If or when Sony cracks down on it, is a future state that no one can predict currently.

Wishing u all the best then

      • It wouldn't be too different from OzB Netflix sharing

It is absolutely different. Netflix has different profiles for different users. PS profile is a singular profile you want to share with different people. Not only is this illegal (renting out the games) you will get the PS profile banned.

  • NO NO NO! This is against the TOS and people have been banned for account sharing on PS5 exactly like this.

Do NOT do this! Sony's support is atrocious and forget appealing or getting account back.

  • So innocent.

This would not work with strangers.

The irony of buying under $2k worth of gaming equipment and yet being so cheap you can't just pay for your own games.

    • Affordability isn't the issue, it's the fact Sony is forcing digital sales for some VR games, and by principal I'll never buy one at RRP when you can't even sell it like physical games when you're done with it. I play my games, finish them and move on.

      • When I read your post, all I thought of was 'No good deed goes unpunished'.

      • Forcing digital sales, or the publisher doesn't want to sell physical copies of indie games?

        • A VR game like Horizon Call of the Mountain is not an indie game. I wonder how many of the nay sayers actually have a PS5 let alone plan on getting the PSVR2 which this idea applies to.

          • @FeZZa21: Me for one: I have a PS5, I've pre-ordered the PSVR2 and I'm a nay sayer.

Look, I do sympathise with you on the lack of physical front. As you've rightly said, Horizon Call of the Mountain could (and probably, should) be available in physical. To me, it reads like Sony trying to squeeze every dollar out of us, because if you've already invested in a PSVR2 you don't really have a choice.

If that frustrates you (as you've said, by principal you won't pay RRP for games), then maybe re-consider whether you want to be such an early PSVR2 adopter, because Sony are going to take us for a ride, whether you like it or not. There aren't going to be discounted PSVR2 games on the PlayStation Store for a while - certainly not any of the good ones.

            • @mboy: I'm not frustrated and of course we have a choice lol It won't be the end of the VR gaming world for me if I don't play their digitally forced and excessively priced games. I'll simply vote with my wallet and choose not to buy them (or maybe buy them when they go on a decent sale at a later date) and just stick with physical VR games. My PSVR2 pre-order was never going to change because the main VR games that I'll be busy with will be free upgrades anyway like GT7, RE Village, No Man's Sky etc But if something like this could work, then everyone would benefit.

  • What if you have 5 people sharing and 4 want to buy a new game and 1 doesn't? What do you do if one person goes rouge and changes the password? What if Sony cancels your login? What if 2 people want to play at once? Considering at this point you've already dropped $1600 on your setup it sounds a bit too risky.

    • That's not how PS profiles work. You can only share the profile with 1 person at a time, hence the weekly time limit so others can take their turn. People can change passwords and recovery mobiles for Netflix sharing as well, but don't. I'd like to think the OzB community is more trustworthy than some other random place, and that's why I haven't heard of issues with other sharing offerings on OzB.

  • Unless it’s sharing something like Nintendo family subscription then it’s not something I’d like to deal with.

  • Yeah nah. Sony will be onto it real quick & each user will need the login details for the account cause their console will need to be made primary to access it on their normal account.
