Please Recommend a Wi-Fi Extender or Other Thingy for eufy Homebase 3?

Eufy HB 3 requires connection by ethernet cable. I have removed all the existing cable socket during recent renovation. So, currently, i have to place the hb 3 in the garage, next to my router (which itself is connected to the NBN box with a 10m long ethernet cable…)

I want to place the HB3 in my home office. I saw in a YouTube video where people used the Wi-Fi extender, but they didn't provide much detail.

I am wondering if fellow OzBargainers have any recommendations.

Note:

  1. This unit must have a ethernet cable port which i can use to connect the HB3.
  2. This unit connects with the router either wirelessly or via powerline (anyway, just not wired)
  3. This unit doesn't need to be very powerful (faster transfer speed etc) as its main purpose is to relocate the HB3. it will be ideal that this unit is small in size.

Thanks.

  • Reason HB3 doesn't have wifi is because it doesn't work well (with 4k).

But best is the enemy of good, and you need to do what you need to do.

Replace your router with a mesh setup, or see if you can mesh with your current router (eg. if it is an Asus, then a second Asus router in mesh mode will far outperform a wifi extender). Then, hardwire the HB3 to the mesh point.

    • i am considering something like TP-Link TL-WA850RE or even 'better' TP-Link AC1750 WiFi Extender (RE450).

The router i am using is Asus AX56U. We have a good coverage and speed with thi router. Will a mesh system serve me better? It will cost a bit more than a say TL-WA850RE (less than $40). A RE450 costs less than $90.

TP-Link don’t make very high quality gear. Exception seems to be their mesh range.

If I were you I’d just buy another Asus and use aimesh to set them up.

        • the asus ax53u is currently selling at over $130. dont think amazon will sell it at $65 again anytime soon, but wil keep an eye on it. Do you have any other models to recommend?

@aec: No idea… where did $65 come from? Is that the price you got it for originally?

Honestly, you get what you pay for. The HB3 doesn't have wifi (while the HB2 does) because it requires high throughput to perform half way decently. No way a company is intentionally going to skip inbuilt wifi in 2023 just for shits and giggles. You aren't going to have a good time by getting super budget gear.

If I were you, I'd relegate your current router to the mesh point and upgrade to a ASUS RT-AX86S or ASUS RT-AX86U when either is on special.

The WA850RE is probably 10 years old now, and was a terrible unit back then. Avoid.

        • Thanks. What would you recommend?

Parents aquired a RE450 without my input I've had to 'deal' with recently. Pretty rubbish. Some holiday analysis has found it'll randomly drop the connection to the main router even if situated in the same room until power cycled.

2nd morien's suggestion of adding a proper asus mesh node.

  • I have removed all the existing cable socket during recent renovation.

Did you actually remove the outlets and plaster over? If not, just route CAT6 cable to these or ceiling, and add wifi access points.

    • I did remove the outlet and plaster over. I remember very clearly there was one outlet just under the computer desk where i am currently typing…

      • If that was an Ethernet port and you removed it then 😶
