You get what you pay for with chargers.
    I'd suggest LiitoKala from AliExpress

    • Can't go wrong with LiitoKala. I bought a heap of good 18650 batteries from them in the CR 20% cashback.

For this price I picked up the charger as a spare for the toolkit.

      • I've been looking for 18650s but am worried ABT quality. Are liitokala ones any good?

        • Obviously they're not the best out there but they're accurate and work well.

      • Ooo.are they shipping li-ion batteries to Oz again?

    • Link to the right LiitoKala charger please.

      .

    • Link to store or product? I see too many copy-cat stores in AliExpress

Note that it will take around 6 hours to fully charge 4 x 2400 mAh batteries since the maximum charging current seems to be 400mA per cell. Not the slowest charger, but I wouldn't call it fast either. Value for money, though.

  • nice, USB-C, the only reason i am buying it to replace my AC one

  • A bargain is a bargain but just consider buying something that plugs into your 240v mains for six bucks from a no-name brand without an approval slapped together in a random factory in China may not be the best way to save a few bucks.

    • I'll plug it into my power bank instead. Problem solved /s

    • +2

I don't disagree on the quality comment, but this is not directly plugging into 240v - it will need a DC output.

    • +1

It's a USB charger, not 240v. So you need a 240v -> 5v USB adaptor. So not so much a risk. But having said that, you can get a Liikokala for under $10, which is probably a better bargain as they seem to build good quality chargers (mine's 4yr+ and going well).

They are unreliable . Buy at your own risk.
Shows fully charged in short period of time in this then put back in my LiitoKala, its not charged at all.

Charges batteries in pairs, according to the reviews. So much for claiming it is an intelligent charger. Guess what happens if you put in one half-flat battery with a fully-flat battery!

Sorry OP, this is a crap charger.

    • so maybe good for 1 or 2 at a time (2 in the end slots)

      • +1

No good that way either. At least two reviews that say this:

one does not charge only two or four

So it must have two charging channels, which is also indicated by the two sets of lights. Each charging channel goes to two slots, which are in series. The only way you'll charge two batteries is if they're both connected to the same channel, so you'll have the same amount of charge pushed into both batteries, causing problems.

Apart from the difficulty of accurately detecting full charge when two batteries are in series, what happens when one battery reaches full charge and the other battery needs more? The only options are overcharging the already-full battery, or leaving the battery needing more charge flat.

Other reviews say the charger's lights merely simulate what a proper charger should do, they don't actually indicate the state of charge.

If you want to charge two batteries at a time, spend a little more and buy the Liitokala Lii-202. The price difference is only the cost of one or two eneloops, but you'll get a much better charger. The Liitokala Lii-402 isn't as good, if you insert 4xAA batteries they only charge at 500mA which is too slow for reliable end-of-charge detection. Buy two Lii-202 units instead, almost the same price as one Lii-402.

        • Thanks for the detailed reply. I have a nitecore i4 that I bought some time ago (from zapals, IIRC). I read now it only has 2 channels: https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Nitecore%20I…

Interestingly nitecore and Liitokala seem to both be a fan of the black and yellow boxes…

          • +1

@spaij: While the Nitecore i4 (and the D4 as well) have only two charging channels, they don't require the batteries to be charged in pairs, and you can charge one battery or three batteries if desired.

Nitecore are almost unique in the way they do the charging: each charging channel is assigned to two slots, and it charges one slot at a time, alternating between them every couple of seconds. This is quite safe for the charger and the batteries, both the i4 and the D4 are good-quality chargers (as long as you don't have one of the counterfeit ones that weren't made by Nitecore).

I have a D4 myself, but I don't use it because I usually want to charge three or four batteries at a time, and Nitecore's slot-swapping means it takes twice as long to charge when charging more than two batteries. That means 6+ hours to charge four AA eneloop pros on the D4 (10+ hours on the i4), versus less than 3 hours on my Liitokala Lii-500.

With the Lii-500, I can charge my batteries in the evening after coming home from work, and they're fully charged before I go to bed. No need to charge overnight and perhaps forget the batteries in the morning rush to get to work.

I have a few of these, it will only charge in pairs, so you need 2 + 2 or just 2
and I always find that despite being an 'Intelligent' charger it won't charge to 100% as I put those batteries in my Xtar VC4 and it puts a good 200+ mah into AA batteries, so essentially what I do because I have like 15+ AA and AAA batteries I charge them in these 'Intelligent' chargers (I have 3) to do most of the work and then do a final charge in my 4 slot Xtar VC4

    Also

These are currently available cheaper through the '3 for US $5.99' on the Aliexpress app - Checked at the time of writing
That's where I got my 3 from last year. You obviously don't have to buy 3 chargers, you can pick and choose what is on offer. It's in that offer labelled 'New Four-Slot Multi-Slot Intelligent Fast Charger No. 5 No. 7 AAA/AA Ni-Cd Battery Charger'

  • Personally I'd rather not skimp on this product and just buy a reputable and high quality battery charger, on sale.

Nitecore has been my go-to for chargers for years. Great safety features.

    • That charger, STENKOL, has problems. It has difficulty detecting full charge, and for many battery combinations will charge too slowly, putting the batteries at even higher risk of overcharge. More description here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11934649/redir
