Acer Swift 5 EVO 14-Inch i7, Deal or No Deal?

I don’t like buying from Harvey Norman but is this an OK deal? What’s good and bad about it?
Seems decent specs and lightweight.
Screen is the size I want now, 14inch. Only a kg in weight, i7 (11th gen), 16GB, 1TB SSD, Touch.
My old Dell has decided that it battery is kaput and the USB ports haven’t worked in a while (it was decent new, but is 4th gen i7, so ancient).
To be honest mostly I use an iPad Pro (1st gen) but want a laptop and don’t like Apple ones (or their prices)

  • Lack of dedicated graphics is the first thing I noticed. Looks ok sorry from that. Sometime might be able to tell you how good or bad the screen is.

  • Onboard graphics with these. Apparently decent but I haven't used. Can hook up a graphics card if you want.

    Buy this - https://www.mwave.com.au/product/intel-nuc-m15-156-fhd-lapto…

12th gen and thunderbolt ports for future proofing.

    Screen is fine. Full HD.

  • Deal or No Deal?

    here…

  • Just get it, a fantastic machine.

  • You will love it

  • I have a swift 1 and the keyboard promotes self harm <it misses strokes unless you hit the key dead centre and with enough force>. Maybe the swift 5 has a better keyboard???

  • I'd avoid 11th gen Intel. AMD 5000 series or better, or Intel 12th or better (13th gen coming up - 12th gen will drop in price)

    • Why is that. What is wrong with 11th gen apart from it’s not the latest.?

  • +1

Is there something wrong with 11th gen, or is it simply "hodl for next gen" silliness?

    • That’s what I asked, something wrong or just not the latest.

  • Don't buy it. I have one of the previous (i7 Gen10) iterations of this machine. After less than 6 months of gentle use, this happened, rate my creative fix:

Also, the touchpad is very finicky and hiccups all the time. Double press Fn+F7 as a workaround (to disable/re-enable it).

    • Did you send for warranty repair? It should be covered during warranty.

      • No, it was literally 1 month out of warranty when the bezel cracked. Acer refused to do anything about it.

Sadly, I only really started using it after about 5 months since I purchased it. Was endlessly procrastinating to recreate my whole work setup and still was using my g'old Lenovo Yoga. And Lenovo is going to be my next laptop when this Acer finally dies.

        • You should try ACL claim on this as Acer warranty is only 12 months in Australia. (Swift 5 is consider a premium laptop and should last more than 12 months).

          • @bobokingdom: Too much hassle to chase Acer over this. Life is short, I just won't be buying their products anymore.

Thanks. Deal is gone now anyway so saved me..
