Where to Buy Automatic Shifter Light Globe/Bulb for Toyota Camry 2004

Hi OzB team.

My automatic transmission shifter globe/bulb(Toyota Camry 2004 Sportivo) has died, and I am looking to buy a replacement globe/bulb but can’t see any options available to buy instore or online.

Could anyone know where I can order one from (instore or online). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Remove it, and take it to Autobarn etc. Buy the same kind.

  • You reckon they will have it ?

    • Are you sure ? I tried putting my rego and it says does not fit your vehicle ?

Take it out and bring it in as the others have said. The parts chooser does not work for dash lights and these odds and ends.

The same bulb has been used forever and I've used this bulb before. But you could have a different car.

        • Cheers mate will give it a go

pull the busted globe and take it in and show the staff.

you're going to have to remove it anyway.

  • Doesn't it show which gear is selected on the instrument cluster?

Just use that at night or count the clicks.

    • You mean on the car dashboard ? If so , yes it does show it , but sometimes it’s Hard to shift the gear as their is not light at night time .

      • Just count the shifts then.

1st click is (R) - race mode in the Sportivo
        2nd click is (N) - neutral
You can let go of the gear selector button now and just slide it into (D) - drive

        Too easy.

        • Or get the $1 gooseneck USB LED light to lit it up

          • @dcep: Thanks any links for the gooseneck LED?

            • @Sunnyoz: It looks like this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/xiaomi-usb-led-light

You can find them cheap from aliexpress but if you need it urgent then try Ebay, though not worth paying for shipping.

There has to be some dollar shop selling them cheap but not sure where or which physical store has it.

I have them to shine my laptop keyboard.

The bulb i found to work for my 2005 Camry is a Sylvania 2721. It is a 12v 1.2W bulb. The Sylvania #74 is too large.
You actually don't have to take off the shifter plate. The light bulb is accessible underneath it without removing it
I just replaced it on my 2003 Camry i did it in the parking lot of an Autozone, the bulb number is sylvania #2721.
I got my bulb from Advance Auto, Sylvania #2721. Fits and works perfect now! As Elle Bella2011 noted, bulb #74 14v does not fit.
    I replaced with T5 led.

As the owner of an older Toyota I share your frustration with the failing car parts API. I normally use Amayama to search for the exact part I need after many clicks (it gives the Toyota OEM part number) but it doesn't always work for some reason (and I think your car is one of those). Toyota repair centres also sell OEM parts direct to the public (sometimes at a premium). Sometimes having the OEM number isn't enough to find a generic part though since they don't bother giving specifications.

As others mentioned above, you probably just need a 12V 5mm wedge bulb and can probably get away with one of those universal T5 LEDs. An autoelectrician in Randwick would sell me matching individual globes (without a case) for less than the unit price for a blister pack at SCA/Repco etc and didn't try to upsell his installation services (though to be cynical, it may be part of his marketing by being so easy going). If SCA ever has a part you need, don't forget to price match online first (normally with automotivesuperstore). The "real" prices, let alone bulk prices, are wayyyyy lower.

  • found some 12v 5w bulbs on repco. put in your car details, then shop this vehicle. Match the dead bulb. I use Toyotanation, best forum with fast responses. Someone probably already has a how to and what bulb/part you need.
