Hungry Jack's Family Bundle Now with Less Chips

Anybody noticed that the Hungry Jack's Family Bundle now has just a share chips pack?
It used to be a small, medium or large chips per burger in the bundle.

There are now nowhere near enough chips for 4 people. Boo.

      What's taters precious

Boil 'em, Mash 'em, Stick 'em in a Stew

Maybe it's a temporary thing until the potato shortage is over.

    • +18

A change to less for the same price is never temporary.

      • +3

Indeed. The only way a for-profit business would reneg on shrinkflation is if enough people made a stink that they decided it would be good PR to go back to the old sizes. Fortunately for them (and unfortunately for us consoomers), by the time the shortage is over none of us will remember or care about this anymore.

Why can't there be a shortage of pickles? Or truffle prices being charged for pickles so that Maccas/HJ have to stop putting pickles on their burgers?

    • +1

It's a shibboleth - they are there so people in the know can ask for a burger without pickles in slow period so they are sure of getting a freshly made one. Beetroot works even better, you can't just open the bun and ditch it without leaving a stain.

      • Not an aficianado as I only buy as a treat or when on holidays but none of us can stand pickles and even when removing them, the taste lingers.

    • Tassie KFC has been trialing the new "famous chicken" for a few months now. This is the new standard chicken burger with a nice layer of pickles. Sadly not enough in my opinion.

      • WT? Chook burger with pickles? What is the world coming to?

You were eating too many carbs anyway. HJ is doing your family a favour.

Wait till you have to all share a big cup of Coke.

    • Imagine thinking a big cup of Coke couldn't be shared just because it's in a cup.

      • +1

Because 2 girls shared 1 cup once?
        .

    • Share coke with soggy straws, make the most tight knit family start gagging.

At least have an option to sub in onion rings instead if it’s legit about potato shortages

  • i can eat 4 whoppers in 1 sitting, my gf thought i couldnt but she paid for them so i did it in front of her.

i would will like to try it with chips or the family meal next time.

    • +1

Wow, if you gf hangs around then she's tough, or just fat and your legit impressing her. Idk.

      • she thinks im very weird

        • She must like weird, congrats!

It's probably due to customer feedback.

Hot chips are that unhealthy for you that any reduction can only be a good thing…

  • +2

Fewer! If you can count it, it's fewer, not less. Less flour, fewer chips. Less noise, fewer people.

    • +1

Unless the number of chips is only reducing by a couple of individual chips I would put chips in the uncountable category, like rice

    • Depends, sizes are misleading.

For example: You are likely to get more chips in a small than in a medium at HJ. (based on evidence of actually weighing them one time, but also regular visual estimation)

    • 'Fewer' isn't a sentence.

    • Calm down Stannis Baratheon.

  • I'd heard about a shortage of chips / potatoes. But, in my experience, I haven't experienced it.
My local fish&chips still serves the same sizes.
My local supermarket still has frozen chips.

I wonder where HJ's get their chips from?

  • Not sure if it's related, but for the last 3 visits to get a family burger bundle, we only had 8 nuggets instead of 10 - sure happens, but 3 times in a row is pretty strange.

On another note. I bought fish and chips for the first time since forever from my local Armadale fish and chips shop. A family fish and chips. $35. 6 super large pieces of fish and kilos of chips. Took 3 of us two days of dinners to finish.

Screw HJ and McDs these days - more and more money for shrinking burgers. I'm going back to more local purchases.

    Anyway, carry on.

Fair point. And I think we may be doing the same from now on. We don't do takeaway very often, but when you do, you want it to be good.

  • Surprised that people still eat at HJ, just in the news a week or so that a cockroach was found in one of the burgers, if I remember it right…
