Don't freak out kids, 666 means something different in Chinese.

    It's basically means "niiiiice"

    • Hahaha 😄

    • +2

I thought it means smooth (+sailing)

      Would prefer $222 for this

    • +1

For it is a human number…..

If you call, ask for Eddie.

    • +3

Hey, if it was 444 I'd still buy it. I'm sure so would most people.

    • Well maybe they can do the 13900k for $888 then… NY good luck ;)

    • i have cracked the code of 666 its not actually the number 6 you have to worry about the number 6 is not the bad one coming to get you at all because two threes make six but thats not right because it has to be in threes and sixes and only two threes make six but three threes make nine which just so happens to be an upside down six so you would think that the number nine could be the bad one coming to get you but im sure we have all heard it said as pre teens why did the six run away its because seven eight (ate) nine and like they say you are what you eat so its actually the lucky number seven (associated with jesus) thats coming to get you look out it could be your lucky day and its not just one 7 its three and we all know 777 is the jackpot your lucky day :)

    eBay is slightly better:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234772242222

Also you can stack with 5% off eBay gift cards from shopback at the moment.

Would be better if stacking 10% off one from giftz.com before:

Someone already commented this in the OP's previous 12900K post before he posted this deal lol.

    • +1

Oh yeah significantly cheaper after postage and surcharge for me.

      • Not to mention the Westpac bonus which is still active (another $20 saving with that).

  • +2

    This CPU is a BEAST

    • I wish they can manufacture a few P core only SKUs since E cores only helps productivity.

      • +2

        There's always AMD

        • -2

It’s a dubious proposition for desktops IMHO.

      • If they did they wouldn't be any cheaper though. I believe you can disable the E cores in BIOS, but haven't got one to try it out myself

      • If you're after gaming performance, having some E-cores which can run the MS Windows processes while your game uses the P-cores is only going to help.

    • Just setup hackintosh, it's really worth it compared with M1Ultra
      cpubenchmark.net/compare/5061vs4922vs4782/Intel-i7-13700KF-vs-Apple-M2-8-Core-3500-MHz-vs-Apple-M1-Ultra-20-Core

  • Got this CPU, running pretty cool when power limit to 220w thermalright socket anti bend thing with artic liquid freezer 360mm

  • +9

Some would call this hell of a deal….

  • +9

The devil is in the detail

  • +9

Is this the new Firelake architecture?

    • you mean raptor lake?

Only the 13600 (non-k) and below models use the old architecture.

dont tell me im missing a joke here

      • +5

        You’re missing a joke here.

        • +1

Can you explain for this dumbass

      • +2

        Biblical symbolism:

666 = devil (fun fact, John may have actually meant Ceasar, not Satan)

        Lake of fire = hell

        • +2

ah cheers i got to the 666>hell part but somehow struggled to make the connection between fire lake and hell ;( not the smartest bloke around the block

  • +1

Looking to upgrade from my old i7 6700k
Would this cpu be a worthwhile upgrade or should I hold off for something better?

    • +1

Yes this is a beast of a chip. Can get a slightly better deal off ebay if you go by another ozb's comment above.

    • considering that ddr5 vs ddr4 doesnt have much performance gains for a higher price. id get this with a ddr4 board. If you wait, you also gotta wait for ddr5 performance to be better

      • Well my current setup is still using DDR3 so upgrading to DDR4 would definitly help

        • 6700k should use DDR4, but likely with much slower timing compared to the current DDR4 RAM.

          • @DmytroP: yea most likely 2133 or 2400mhz
but if you gotta upgrade, check out youtube videos benchmarking 13700k ddr5 vs ddr4
(could just go ddr5, if you find it worth it)

      • +1

Correct. Little difference here with an i5 13600k and the i7 would be similar. Unless you are using a rtx 4090 and gaming at 1080p 360hz+ you won't notice a difference in gaming and even then I doubt it: https://youtu.be/4aQG_zxGaQo?t=336

i7 is a waste for gamers imo. You would save hundreds going with an i5/b660 and ddr4 3600 versus an i7/ddr5 and you could spend more of your budget on a Graphics card.

        • definitely agree, save on cpu cost and ram and spend more on gpu. The cpu shouldnt be bottlenecked for awhile

    • +1

I'd go with AM5 if your going to stick to the same platform for a while. R5 7600 would be a good for just about anything then you can always upgrade later down the line.

      • -1

Do keep in mind the current am5 boards have a lot of trouble with high speed ddr5 (above 6000), worth considering if you want to keep it/upgrade the ram later on

      • -1

yes overpay now because you might upgrade in the future, what kind of logic is this?

        • Long time horizon thinking. Humans developed longer time horizon thinking when we evolved from cavemen living day-to-day.

    • +1

The longer answer is it depends on what you're doing on your PC, your budget, whether you want to wait for X3D benchmarks, how much you value CPU upgrades on the same board and what you think will happen in the future.

      • I primarily use my PC for 3D art. So stuff like Blender, Substance Painter, Zbrush, Unreal Engine 5, Marmoset Toolbag, and so on. Most of this stuff is heavier on the GPU than CPU, but given that my current CPU is over 5 years old im thinking it might be time to get an upgrade.

        • -1

For your use case, this CPU is better than all the Ryzens

      • CPU upgrades on the same board are over rated for anyone with price to performance in mind - in my opinion. I generally upgrade every 5-7 years and it's rare that any board will cover new cpu generations for that long.

        • You werent aboard the 2600k train, I take it.

    • You could "hold off for something better" until the end of time when it comes to pc parts. I got one of these a few weeks ago to replace an i7 8700k and it feels like a pretty significant upgrade to me

    • +1

Massive upgrade but what are you doing that would benifit from this chip over the 13600k or a ryzen 7600?

    • Depends on your gpu, if you were gpu limited before it'd make little difference.

      • Currently rocking a 3070. Hoping to upgrade to the 4080 if and when they drop the price to something more reasonable.

        • I'm in the exact same boat man! 6700k need an upgrade as I'm really starting to feel mine chugging along. I do mostly 3D work with some gaming such as Rust where I'm going from 40-60 frames 1440p which is pretty painful.
I'm on a evga 1080ftw though, is it still worth getting with my current gpu?

  • +3

Remember that combo deal just after Black Friday with a i7-13700K with MSI Mobo for the same price that SE didn’t honour….I do

  • +1

    The number of the beast
Hell and fire were spawned to be released
The one for you and me

  • A truly Devilish deal

  • I have the 13600kf and its a brilliant card so far. Intel is definitely back in the game again as a value proposition card

    • +2

why do you refer CPU as cards XD

      • Do not know honestly lol. I didnt even realise that until you memtioned it.

  • +2

Cheaper on eBay as mentioned above.

  • +1

    Properly runs hot as hell.

  • im still running my i7 9700k and by this benchmark on UW I'll be keeping it for a bit longer
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98ZmMuOTeqQ&ab_channel=ForGa…

    • True. Depends what you need the PC for. For gaming the 9700k is still fine, however it is outperformed by a 3600x in CPU intensive workloads, let alone a modern 8 core CPU

      • yes true, productivity wise they improved but its disappointing to see gaming hasn't moved that much in 4 generations now.
and its not that easy to upgrade - need new mb, ram, cooling
        these things run HOT

        • +2

Gaming hasn't improved because game engines haven't changed. They still rely heavily on single core performance, while CPU design is being optimised for multicore performance and power consumption.

We have recently broken through the 5ghz barrier, however progress has hit a wall, CPUs were doing 4ghz over a decade ago. To get better performance in gaming, CPUs need to implement the long pipelines of the pentium 4 era, but the industry is moving in the opposite direction.

  • oh man..

  • Can anybody recommend a decent ITX mobo for that gets the most out of this silicon and (ideally) has front USB header?

  • If you're 555 then I'm

  • Haven't built a PC since pre-ozbargain days… Are these likely to drop in price over the coming months/before the new ones are released later this year?

    • Its pretty good price for a high end CPU, the 13500 and 13600K are really good too and much cheaper. If you're after a gaming rig the 7600X3D should be out soon too, no idea on pricing tough.

    • It depends on its use.

        1. Programming
        2. Gaming
        3. Photo editing
        4. General productivity

However, I'd like to try my hand at 3D rendering and or video production, hence looking at upper-mid-range CPUs.

        • +1

That is a really tough call I think, honestly it doesn't really matter which one you choose.

The Intel chip, the GPU is actually useful - Intel Quick Sync is widely supported.

Although they are similar on paper, the AMD chip will be much better at multicore workloads. The AMD chip has 12 cores, the Intel chip has 8 cores + 8 "60٪" cores, a workload that uses 8 threads will be similar on both, a workload that uses 12 threads will be significantly faster on the AMD. The Intel chip only has similar multi core performance if you can utilise 16 threads or more (a rough estimate) - in my experience that isn't something you do often

          • @greatlamp: Thanks for your input! I think it'll likely come down to total of build as motherboard prices are a whole other issue.

          • @greatlamp: Personally I prefer fewer but faster cores. Often what I do with a computer uses just 1 or 2 threads, such as applying Noise Redudction or Dynamic Compression to an audio file, or applying a Sharpening plugin to an Image.

Newer AI powered programs move the workload to the GPU so the CPU is almost irrelevant if you spend a lot of time doing such operations (eg Topaz Gigapixel for upsizing images).

  • Anyone tried this chip in unraid? Plex and frigate are my main use cases. Not sure how the p and e cores will go

  • Anyone have a good mobo recommendation with this cpu?

    • +1

msi pro z690-a seems to be everyone's go-to. also recommended by buildzoid as the best value z690 mobo

  • So, I currently have a machine with the below specs:
    10700k with a 240mm AIO cooler
    Z490 motherboard
    32 GB of DDR4 3600MT CL16 Ram
    M.2 NVMe SSD
    3080 video card
    850 Watts power supply

At a minimum, what additional components would I have to change to get the best out of a 13700k CPU - is it just the motherboard & Ram? The reason I'm looking to upgrade is to run an MS flight sim a bit smoother.

    • +1

just the motherboard - you can keep your ddr4 memory kit if you go with a ddr4 motherboard. but have you looked at whether the 5800x3d would perform better than the 13700k for MS flight sim? if not better in pure performance, it would be a lot cheaper to get 5800x3d with a cheap b550 mobo
