OzBargain Ultimate Razor Blade?

I’ve long used Gillette Fusion razors, pretty good quality, normally buy them on sale etc, I’ve also used the 6 blade Dollar Shave Club razors before and they are pretty good too.

Does anyone know any cheap generic blades that are similar quality, I bought some blades that looked like Gillette fusion on aliexpress one time and they were very blunt compared to originals and chucked them out, but I would think in this day and age making cheap decent razor blades wouldn’t be that hard?

Man members swear by safety razors, super cheap

Safety razor. Even at brick and mortar prices, it’s $1 per blade which lasts about a week. Buy online and it’s even cheaper.

    • I buy the Russian blades, like a few bucks for a pack of 100. I can't recommend safety razors though, not a very good or convenient shave. Wish I bought a good electric shaver instead.

Hm. It definitely takes a while longer to shave with a safety razor than electric which I get can be inconvenient. But I find the quality of the shave second to none.

        • I just like how old fashioned it is. 100 years ago magazines would have had ads for this exact product. Homer uses a safety razor in early Simpsons episodes.

    • Does safety Razer's works like Asian men like me with stubby thin hairs? I got a bit of sensitive skin so I don't want to cut or irritate my skin

      • I don’t see why not. I find it less irritating than a mach3, so probably fine.

  • Merkur 34c. Gillette silver blue blades (everyone has a different preference on blades though). TOBS sandalwood soap (proraso for cheaper option).

Pays for itself pretty quick. Can skip the brush and soap and just use a can if you still want.

Even cheaper to just not shave.

Yes but what of us that can only manage a moustache like the magikarp salesman?

  • Safety razor. I recommend a handle that twists open so it's easier to clean / replace the razor blades.

Any safety razor blade can be resharpened at least 100 times or more before needing to be thrown out.

1 standard Gillette safety blade lasts me year or more before I throw it out.

These are just like running old non-safety(cut throat razors blades) on piece of leather to get them as sharp as brand new.

Like straight out of the box again and again

I have been waiting for this question all my life.

In the effort to minimise waste and spending; electric or a straight edge.

  • I've tried a few safety razors including the Rockwell, 6C and 6S but am getting the best results so far from a Weishi adjustable using Feather, Permasharp or Rubi blades. Only need to use the shaver on 1-2 level, anything more is a bit too scrapy for me.

I use and would recommend the “Calibre 6” blades from Aldi - https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/beauty/beauty-detail/ps…
$2.25 per blade, but they seem to last for weeks.

  • Thanks everyone, not sure if I want to go to the safety blade route and deal with more cuts just to save a few dollars. I use the razor pit to sharpen my 5 blade, kind of extends it a bit more nothing amazing though.
The aldi ones look good, I’ll have to give them a try.
