I personally like it the way it is currently.
I use the reminder option on OzB and that works a treat!
Is this something you do manually for each listing or can you set it up to do it automatically?
Each one manually.
Its an extra step.
It's several extra steps and it's just unnecessary. Is anyone measuring the effect on GDP?
I just subscribe to this account. Watching every post which hits the front page sound like far more effort
I didn't know about the reminder thing but i just set it and it took 2 seconds. In that case i say keep them coming exactly how they are.
Extra steps that could be optimized and so much time wasted when we could be engaged on other deal posts
Agreed. Reminders and newsletters are an extra step. If its a freebie in a week then its not a deal today.
I say announce as soon as it's known. If someone is actually interested in the game they'll know not to buy it. I honestly think the people complaining about extra clicks have no interest in playing the game, they just don't want to do any work to shovel freebies into their library.
Thats a good point
Yeah people with nothing better to do but complain and snaffle free crap. It would have taken them longer to whinge on here than click the reminder button.
Well firstly, you pinned me exactly. But also, post it in an upcoming section. Just don't include in Daily Ozbargain when it isn't today's ozbargain.
where's the upcoming section?
I suppose you don't like to know when domino's cheap day is coming either?
@G-rig: There probably isn't one, but if you want to post something that isn't a deal yet, but is going to be in the future, then you need one.
Yeah that's the same. Anything that isn't a deal today doesn't belong in daily bargains.@SlickMick: Why don't you suggest it to the mods.
Pretty easy to scroll past and ignore those anyway mate, as they have a blue tag@G-rig: Ahh there's the problem. The daily email doesn't have the blue tag. You don't know that the deal isn't current until you click the link, open a browser, then see crap this isn't available yet.
@SlickMick: Ahh, the blue tab is on the posts that say 'IN X DAYS'
Pretty easy to ignore those then.. You'll be right.
Can you please not be lazy?
It's my personal hate opening these bargains just to be told "too bad you're early". I wish the daily email would withhold any future-dated bargains until they're available, and the website should indicate up front (if it doesn't already) so we don't waste our time clicking.
In the meantime, I express my displeasure by not upvoting. Sorry about that OP :)
Couldn’t everyone’s problems could be solved by making the titles: “Free: X game. Next week: Y game”?
Why did we get into the habit of announcing freebies that are not yet available, rather than announcing the ones that are available?
These posts carry the reduced value of a reminder to click on Epic because something became free today. For instance, we cannot use these posts any more to discuss the actual game that is available today (Epistory), because that was posted a week ago….
I can understand doing it this way. Helps those people who may have wanted to buy the game.
A freebie next week is not a freebie today.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/750703 people did discuss the game, and it was on the top of the front page of this site yesterday (when it is available)
Not sure if two single sentence posts is "people discussing the game".
There's a distinct lack of "downloaded it, tried it and my thoughts are…", likely largely because the post is so old and seems to only randomly show up at times. Not sure what the solution is, but this is one way that the current process is less than ideal
The post was literally at the top of the front page of OzBargain on the Friday that it was released and available. Not sure what more it is that you want than that?
This post is also likely to be, again, at the top of OzBargain today and allow people to comment about downloading and playing the game.
@DiscountForThee: You:
Not sure what more it is that you want than that
Me:
Not sure what the solution is, but this is one way that the current process is less than ideal
I quite clearly acknowledged that I don't have a solution is but pointed out something that is in my opinion less than ideal
Also, since you asked
Not sure what more it is that you want than that
Meaningful discussion on the item once people have the opportunity to obtain the near instant item.
Of the 16 comments in that deal post, only 4 were made after the deal was actually available. I tried it Friday evening, would have posted my thoughts as a comment if I had seen the post when I checked OzB after that but I didn't see it so didn't make a comment.

So it kind of sounds like you want people who have (already in the past) downloaded and played the game to share their thoughts about the game. And then, late on the Friday afternoon when the game is free and available so that people who have finished work have had the opportunity to download the free game are able to post about their thoughts.
And the post would be on the front page of OzBargain to allow plenty of people to see the deal on Friday afternoon.
… which is exactly how it is done, and how it was done lol

you can't force people to have a meaningful discussion if they don't want to comment. There was plenty of opportunity to do so and there will be again for this game. Your fault for having missed the last deal when it was on the front page on Friday
@DiscountForThee: None of the assumptions you have made above reflect my point of view. You seem to struggle with the concept of feedback so I'm going to jump out of this conversation now.
Have a great Friday.
@Domingo: My bad sorry, it sounded like you wanted: 1) the post to be very visible during the period where the game is free and available, and, 2) people to have meaningful discussions about the free game which is available.
1) the post was visible, and 2) you can't force people to discuss the things you want in the way you want them to (although they had all the opportunity to do so)
Enjoy your Friday too!
I'm very close to ignoring Epic bargains coz I know they're never available on the day the bargain is posted, and I can just go straight to Epic on Fridays.
Then I'd miss out big time at Xmas, and if they ever offered a random bargain. My life could be perfect if it wasn't for this one little thing that could so easily be fixed.
Real first world problem, if there ever was one.
Personally, I'm happy to see these announcements ahead of time. I'd prefer not to buy a game and then find it free a few days later. As for saying that a reminder is an extra step, give me a break. How hard is it to click the reminder icon on this page?
Couldn’t both problems could be solved by making the titles: “Free: X game. Next week: Y game”?
To test your hypothetical though, have you ever genuinely not bought a game because you saw that it was coming up as a weekly free game on the EGS?
They tend to release older titles that assumedly aren't making many sales, otherwise they wouldn't make them free.
Your point makes sense, I just wonder if it actually reflects what happens
Bear in mind that I'm in my mid-sixties so I'm never playing the latest and greatest games (my reflexes are too slow and I spent way too much money on computer games between 1980 and 1997, so older games are fine by me). Whilst not on EGS, I have purchased a game on Steam which then came up on Amazon Prime for free just a few days later and I was pretty annoyed but, in the end, I accepted it. The title had been leaked as coming free on Prime Gaming but I missed the post somehow.
I think the point comes down to people being peeved that the game is not free the day the message is posted and they somehow overlook the "In X Days" part of the listing. I admit I was not aware of the "reminder" function on OzBargain until a few months back when someone mentioned it. Now I use it regularly.
Makes sense. That would be frustrating.
I agree the reminder (and bookmark for that matter) functions on the site are great, although I don't typically use it for EGS as I just look at the store every Friday. They haven't had any limited deals so with a whole week to grab it, it isn't as critical as something that is likely to sell out and needs to be jumped on immediately. But good to see people finding solutions that work for their situations!
Sartre?
Hell is Other Philosophers!
Thanks, but I'll skip it.Top-down games make me woozy. I still haven't played GTA<3 and never will.
If we are going to announce things that are free in 5 or 50 days, then the OP should at least have the courtesy to take into account the impact of inflation, e.g. $1 today is not going to be worth $1 in 5 days time, therefore this deal has a negative financial value at today's money, someone with an economics degree can surely explain it better but basically the OP is costing you NOW money in order to save FUTURE YOU from having to pay for a game which is essentially worthless IN THE FUTURE.
Huh, it's free..
Why would anyone buy a computer game knowing it will be free in 5 days.Someone give this person a master's degree in economics.
Free is free. You can't have "negative financial value" on something that is free. In fact, it may save someone money from buying the game when they can get it for free in a few days.
Can we discuss the idea in the title? We all know that's why we clicked this. Resignation and agreement.
There's a thought - we have a lot of rules for what goes in the title, why not include "THIS IS NOT AVAILABLE YET. DO NOT CLICK ON THIS IF YOU'RE EXPECTING A BARGAIN AVAILABLE TODAY" or perhaps an abbreviated version.
[IN 2 DAYS] or [TOMORROW] in blue is pretty obvious, just click on it then.
Similar to the [EXPIRED], [OUT OF STOCK] tags too - do you click on them or scroll past?
Are you even going to get this game after all this?
Just mentioning that none of these tags appear in the deals newsletter (perhaps in case a future deal is already available by the time someone reads it? I’d personally really appreciate them though).
@Sven Viking: Dunno, works on Chrome.
@G-rig: You receive the newsletter via Chrome?
@Sven Viking: Email
This is a very interesting nonstandard multiplayer game. I’m… not sure I enjoyed it, but great presentation and very unique. Basically it’s a roguelite with both PvE and PvP combat. You hunt for resources like a Battle Royale match but can escape at certain times rather than fighting to the death. Maybe a bit like top-down Escape from Tarkov with monsters in a horror setting?
Anyway my problem was after spending a lot of time searching cupboards for loot you tend towards being slaughtered by players who’ve managed to survive multiple matches and retain their equipment, and you virtually start from scratch after each death. Your goal is basically to use stealth and run/hide from such players as high-level enemies, and hope to eventually build up to their position, but it’s easier said than done and you don’t really have a way to know whether an oncoming player is someone you can try to fight, or one of two near-invincible players working together. Definitely makes things tense though, and fits the setting, just a bit too tense and frustrating for me.
Think of it like randomly-generated Dark Souls where you’re constantly invaded by multiple players and drop your equipment on death (unrecoverable), but with more focus on the use of stealth and flight to try to avoid them and escape. Also a lot more time spent searching cabinets for loot.
Thanks for the review. Can't believe I had to scroll down so far to find more info about the game!
+1 for you!
Awesome: MA 15+ Strong Drug References. My kind of game.
Can we go back to only announcing free games on the day of release or the day before?
